I’ve been lax on posting lately, and I apologize for that.  Today, I’m sharing this picture of my paternal grandmother with you.

My grandma the fashion model

Yup, her mother ran a millinery shop.  Quite enterprising for a turn of the [last] century woman.  Grandma was a piano player and when she was older derived some income for playing for the silent movies.  I miss her stories and especially that infectious laugh she had and passed along to others.

Results Received

In call with the urologist office, I learned the results of last week’s bone scan.  And it is good news.  The cancer does not appear to have spread!  Color me happy, as in happy camper. :cheer: 8)

That opens up my preferred option.

Am I ready for this?

Next step is to meet with the surgeon.  That is being arranged by the urologist’s office.

Truth me told, I’d rather have a large salad with goodies from our garden.  But, Hey!  I can have that too.

Sad Day

My morning started with the news that the 49-year-old daughter of friends was struck by a vehicle and killed while walking along the rural road near home.  According to her mom, she evidently stumbled and stepped into the roadway.  This happened as the vehicle’s driver had the sun shining in her eyes.

I’ve known Norm for as long as I can remember and Marge was Sylvia’s neighbor during junior high and high school.  We were married a couple of months apart in the same church by the same pastor.

Today our hearts are breaking for these long-time friends.

Another message from a cousin informed me that her sister had passed backed in April.  She had had pneumonia.  A neighbor discovered the cousin, but kept news from the family.

And there I sat waiting to hear results from the bone scan.  Does bad news come in threes?  What would be next.

Last night, a young man was driving his car when he was struck by a train in Lake Odessa.  The young man was killed.

Now I’m hoping that the phone doesn’t ring and that no new e-mails appear in my inbox.

I’ll content myself with this (too early in the process to share with the parents):

Isaiah 61

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
3     and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
    instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

House Guest

Our friend Sharky of My Quality Day, stopped my last evening.  She was returning from a conference in Pennsylvania, which you can read about on her blog.

This morning, after breakfast Sharky and Sylvia headed out to garden.  I went out and caught some of the action.

Passing the cabbage.

The morning sun was very bright.  The last cabbage that we harvested weighted ten pounds.  This one is at least that big.

It’s not heavy (oof), it’s my cabbage

Is that why they call it a head of cabbage?  Perhaps it is.

One handed push-up. Good exercise!

While Sharky does her morning work out, Sylvia harvests a couple jalapeño peppers.  Great!  I see salsa in my future.

The gals are busy in the kitchen while I write this.  From the odors that make their way back her to the office, I think it’s going to be a wonderful lunch.

On a personal note, I’m waiting for results of Wednesday’s bone scan.

Looking Forward

Monday evening – an inch of rain had filled the air with moisture as it cooled,  the fog appeared.

I captured this image looking north from the front deck of our house.  After a wee bit of manipulation (I added the photo-grain effect), it seemed a perfect display of my life as it appears to me just now.

It’s all a bit fuzzy and details are obscure, and yet in the distance is there is a bright radiance.  Yes, that seems to sum it all up.

Wednesday, I had another bone scan.  This is to see if the cancer has spread beyond the prostate.  By tomorrow, I should know the results.  After that we’ll decide on a treatment strategy.  For now, I’ll enjoy the beauty of the fog.

Memory

Memory is not what it used to be.  The same can be said of a lot of other things.

Speaking of memory on this date in 1877 the first voice recording was made by Thomas Edison as he records his recitation of Mary Had a Little Lamb.  I didn’t remember that.

Did you?

And for a special friend.  This in response to your thought-provoking post today.

Improvising

It was forty years ago that Sylvia, the boys and I moved to Quito Ecuador.  We had to wait for furniture.  It was custom made back then/there.  It didn’t take too long for a couch and two chairs to be made and delivered.  The dining room set took longer.  We improvised.
