Sightings

I sat here at the computer on a recent sunny afternoon.  I looked up from the monitor and there standing beside my driveway was a deer.  A male.  “How beautiful,” I thought.  “If I had my camera.”  Then I realized the camera was there on the desk.  I picked it up and grabbed a couple of shots.  (These were to blurry to be of use.)

Then I stood where I had a better angle to steady the camera.  The buck was approaching the fence and I tried to time the shot to catch him mid leap.  Fail!

Just passing through. He was soon gone.

The automatics in the camera are nice, but only for some things.  I didn’t have time to switch to a fast burst mode.  I like to use that and then sort through, say 40 frames for the best shot.  The rest I then delete.

Several days later, I looked out the dining room window where I saw a group of the girls searching for some grass to chew.

These three were later joined by a fourth doe and then they were gone

The scene changes every day.  No two are ever alike.  I like that.

Doctor Says . . .

When the doctor speaks, I listen.

Yesterday I met with Dr Rodriguez. (That’s not him in the photo.)  I was eager to hear results of the PSA test 6 weeks after surgery.  He said the results were, “perfect.”  The count was zero, and that’s what we had hoped for.  It’s too early to say “cured,” but it is looking good–very good.

He asked about recovery with specific questions.  After I had answered these, he said I was progressing better than average.  That was also a good thing to hear.  At times it seems to be going very slowly to me.

Power Outage

We lost power Sunday evening during the big storm that raged through this region on our nation.  Shortly after, the emergency generator started and switched itself into action.

The power company at first estimated restoration by Thursday.  Next it was Saturday.  This morning they are saying Friday.  At least I’m warm and only the clocks are off.  (The generator runs just a bit fast.)

Had the neighbors in last night.  We enjoyed a nice visit and one enjoyed a good hot shower.  They also left a dozen eggs.

Parsnip Queen

Sylvia shows of two of her prizes

Earlier this week, Sylvia harvested some of the parsnips she had planted in the spring.  They were the largest we have ever grown.  I was concerned that they might be “woody.”  That was not the case at all.

After parboiling the sliced up parsnips, Sylvia fried them in butter.  Oh my goodness!  There were heavenly.  The best I’ve ever eaten–ever!

In the past we have harvested in late summer.  This year we followed expert advice and waited until after the first killing frost.  It makes a huge difference.

Other parsnips from this year’s harvest

We now have parsnips in the refrigerator and even more in the freezer.  Lots of goodness to see us through this winter.

First Snow

The first snow to stick to the ground this season fell yesterday.  As Sylvia said, “At least it’s Veteran’s Day and we don’t have to get the mail.”  But that’s not the only reason we were glad it was Veteran’s Day.  We are glad to honor those who have worn the uniform and served our nation.

But back to the snow.  It wasn’t a lot, but there will be more to come.  Won’t there?

Excuse me.  I need to find my comfy sweat shirt.  I’m feeling chilly.  How about you?

I’m Still Here

It took several hours to handle administrative tasks related to domain renewal.  Actually, most of that time was spent trying to explain the problem and answer the questions of support staff at the hosting company.  I finally have that solved, and it was finished on deadline day. :cloud9:

Don’t expect a steady stream of blog posts starting today.  I’m still finding it necessary to minimize my time at this computer.  And yet I miss all my friends from the blogosphere.

I’m trying to adopt a George Jones attitude.  Not sure what that means?  Watch this:

At least that got my blood to circulating on this damp and chilly,  cloudy and dreary Monday morning.  Wanna dance?
