Snowy Sunday

I told myself that I would not capture an image of the first significant snowfall of this season.  Sunday afternoon the snow began.  It became more intense.  I tried to ignore the white blanket.

In the evening, I turned on the Christmas lights and made the mistake of looking out the window.  Camera in hand, I opened the front door and captured this image.

It was so beautiful . . . until the lights went out.

Fortunately, the emergency generator took over, but I turned off the extra lights.  About six or seven hours later, commercial power was restored.

In the dark, a neighbor reports taking a tumble but is going to survive.  She was glad when the lights came back on a short while later.

What!?!

Did I sleep through summer?  Yesterday began with snow on the ground.  Later, more was falling from the sky.  (Didn’t get pix of that.)

As I write this, the temp is in the sixties F (abt 17 C) and Sylvia is working in the flower beds.

Why snow on May 15?  Perhaps it was the aftermath of our mild winter?

If one wishes to complain, there is always a reason to be found.  If, on the other hand, one wishes to be joyful there are abundant motives for that.

The Beat Goes On

Yesterday, I posted a pic of April snow.  Before going to bed, I snapped another shot of the scene.

This morning I woke to discover a fluffy layer of snow covering the entire neighborhood.  I want to go back into hibernation and wake when it’s over.  Okay?

Who Forgot?

April 8, 2016

I think someone failed to issue the memo.  It is April.  We’ve already had a snowy week, and now were in the second week.  More to come, but the long-term outlook is for warmer air and clearer skies.  Okay bring it on.  I can stand it.

Today is our younger son’s birthday.  Here’s wishing you all the best, Scott.

One of Those Days

Saturday, the snow began to fall.  Large flakes hit the ground and soon disappeared.  What would you expect from snow in April?

Snow fall intensified.  Certainly it won’t accumulate–but it did.

Saturday evening, the sun set on a snow-covered scene.  Sunday, it slowly went away, leaving the earth green once again.

Al to the Rescue

Last week we got hit with the second major winter storm in less than a week.

I needed help on this one.  So I called Al.  A couple of hours later, he showed up as he had promised.

That four-wheel drive truck will push a lot of snow.  And it did!

I’m grateful for a reliable backup at times like this.  Also grateful for good friends.

Whimsy

Snow drifts can be whimsical.

Interesting, but not really whimsical.

Interesting, but not really whimsical.

For whimsy, you must look at from a new, dare I say “negative,” point of view.

That what we were looking for!

That what we were looking for!

Shadow on snow are also interesting.  I love the way they “flow” with the landscape.

Other worldly?

Other worldly?

I darkened the tree to add to the fun.  Here’s another.

This is my favorite. Not much flat land around here.

Most of the time, life is all about how you look at it.  Would you agree?

I’m Walking

I had a number of captions for this photo:

Sylvia, mail in hand

Sylvia, mail in hand

The first was, “Walking in a Winter Wonderland.”  We’re not necessarily feeling that way after the second big snowfall in less than a week.  When we were teens, Chubby Checker hit the charts with, “I’m Walking.”

How about, “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays this woman from getting her mail.”  (She already has her male.)  Yes, I think I like that one.

Do you have a better caption for this image?
