PhD

According to one account that I heard some years ago, PhD means Piled higher and Deeper.  I’m not saying that the account is true, but around here snow is PhD.

Beside the driveway near the house

It’s not to bad near the house, but out toward the barn it’s a different story.  If you know what I mean. :beam:

Piles of snow to water the land come spring

Perhaps with all this cold weather fewer pesky bugs will survive to bother us come spring and summer.  I hope the good guys make it through okay–especially the honey bees. 😎

I was going to post this some time ago, but then I managed to distract myself.  I was checking satellite images online looking at land usage patterns in Barcelona, Spain.  Street View gave me a different vision of how it is that city.

From there I started looking for a Blimpie’s restaurant in Madrid.  Sylvia and I ate there 16 years ago.  It appears to have given way to a tobacco shop.  Perhaps that’s progress? :dontknow:

I have my next computer assembled and I’ll soon connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor to begin loading operating system, software and configuring them.  It’s been another good day.

About Chuck

  1. Ok when are you going to do your geek thing and tell us what you have constructed in your sinister lab for a computer ? I’m thinking of a lap top or kindle for my Dad stays any suggestions ?????

    • It’s a desktop 64-bit machines for Win 7. I’d go with a Kindle or a Nook. Sylvia went with the HD+ Nook seeing that we could get more for our money. A laptop will cost more and I think you’ll like the tablet better. Give me a call if you have question or just wanna talk. :uh:

  2. Emma is hoping to study abroad in Spain next spring semester. I will have to tell her that you’ve been there! Maybe you could give her directions to the old Blimpies. 😉

We’ve got snow piled up here too. There is nowhere left to put it. It’s like a tunnel going from the street to the garage.

Cool about the new computer!! I’m impressed! That is a dream for my son–he wants to build one too. Maybe I should just send both kids over to your house!!

    • Emma will love the experience. Briana spent several days living with a Spanish family in Madrid. She’ll be doing a community medicine project in Ghana come spring.

Here, the snow piles have grown some more. :surrender: :beam:

  3. We do know what you mean. As for the restaurant in Madrid, were it a mid-American city it would probably be a tattoo parlor, or an empty storefront.

    • Sylvia and I were surprised to find a Blimpie’s in Madrid. We were regulars at the one near our home, which at that time was in Connecticut.

It is interesting to visit a place after a long absence and see how much has changed. Empty storefronts make me feel sad. Yes, life moves on, but space can be recycled.

    • Sylvia responded, “She doesn’t have to be so happy about it.

Actually we’re happy for you. You’ve already had enough snow. We, obviously, haven’t. :zip:

  4. Hurrah, for good days! 😀

I’m glad you’re making progress on the computer. And for the record, I’d get distracted viewing Spain too… I bet it’s nice and warm there today. :awe:

    • Good days are exactly that.

I’ve been to Madrid seven times, but never made it to Barcelona. The various regions are quite diverse as is the language and culture. I had read a bit of their history, but didn’t really appreciate the differences within the country until I spent some time there. 😎
