Snowy Winter Day

Snow Fall

Slowly, gently snow drifts to earth,
A pure white sheet covers the ground.
I can hear only the silence,
As there is not the slightest sound.

There is magic all around me,
I feel the kiss of flake on cheek.
It transports me like a vision,
Brings me joy that I did not seek.

So fall snow, sweet gentle snow fall,
May the earth be covered by you.
Enchant us oh you frozen joy,
Even though your days here are few.

About Chuck

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

  1. Fishy, Yes it is. I know it's hard to believe from an old fossil like me . . .

Vanilla, It was gentle here too. I told Sylvia that I didn't know what I'd blog about, and then I came into the office and wrote that.

Dawn, Thanks. That means a lot since it came from youl

Sandi, Thanks for the kind words.

Sharkbytes, I'll admit that I didn't miss snow when I lived in the tropics. The seasons are great and winter is special.

Shutterbug, Those words captured my emotions on that day. I'm glad that they moved you too.

Ida, I'm honored that you did. Since I'm retired, I can enjoy the snow. If we're snowed in for a few days, it is no problem. I only dislike what the cold does to my arthritis. But I won't move to escape it. No way!

Lin, I say let it stay cold and icy all winter. The dirt road turns to "poor man's concrete" and the cars come home clean. Spring will be here soon. This is my 70th winter, and they just go by faster each year.

  2. I don't know about you, but their days here are not few! We are expecting lots of your snowflake friends tonight, Chuck. I have mixed feelings as I do not have to drive in it, but the kids have to go back to school in the midst of their flurry.

    (p.s. I love your prose!)

  3. Love the picture, I hope you don't mind that I swiped it for my desktop.

Great poem, but I am so tired of snow and cold.

  4. Chuck, I love this. The line "I feel the kiss of flake on cheek." if wonderful and holds the message of the verse. Beautifully expressed.

  5. Another lover of the cold white stuff. Horray! I really would languish in a climate without real seasons. Thanks for sharing this with us.

  6. That is a publish-worthy poem. Well done.

Our snowfall throughout this week has been gentle, but the forecast is for a "nasty one" starting tonight.
