Three-Year Blogaversary

Today marks three years since I started this blog, and this is my 944th post.  The motivation that launched these efforts was to provide a means of connecting to family.  In that, it has done better than I had imagined.

What I hadn’t expected was the community of friends that would develop and the diversity of those friends and their blogs.  Some of you have been visiting me here on Secondary Roads since those early days when I was stumbling and trying to find my way.  Others are new friends.  I treasure each of you.

I considered giving up this blog at previous blogaversaries, but the encouragement of family and friends kept me going.  I probably spend more time here at the computer than I should, but I enjoy it.  It’s nice to have this creative outlet that lets me cover topics in greater depth than Facebook, which I use a bit.  I’ve considered Twitter and may sign up for that one of these days.

Life is good.  God has blessed me with the perfect woman for my wife.  We have two wise and loving sons, a great daughter-in-love and a granddaughter who makes my heart beat with pride and joy.  Other family and friends, including many of you, form a network of sharing and caring that cannot be beat.  Yes, life is very good.

Sylvia and I love our life here in rural west Michigan.  We like the light traffic that passes by on the dirt road on which we live–most of it is farm equipment.  We adore the bucolic scene that surrounds us.  Cattle outnumber people in our neighborhood, and wildlife outnumbers cattle.  Peace and tranquility reign supreme.

Despite arthritis pain and trembling hands, this is the best season of my life thus far.  I’m looking forward to this year.  It promises to be a very good year for all of us.
