A Warm Greeting

Yesterday afternoon, I had an appointment with my primary care physician.  This was to obtain a clearance for the foot surgery I have scheduled for February 6.

As I checked in, Rachel was at the desk.  She looked at me and said, “Charles?”  I’m not usually greeted by my given name.  It’s been 56 years since Sylvia changed my name to Chuck.  That’s what most people call me.

Nevertheless, I answered, “Yes.”

Rachel then said, “Boy, am I glad to see you.”

Incredulously, “You are?”

With a flashing eye, a grin and a chuckle, “Yes, you are the last patient for today.”

“Monday?”

“Yes, they are the worst.”  We both laugh.

I suppose she’s right.  It’s hard to tell.  Since retirement, my Mondays seem to be no problem at all–most of the time. 😉

I’m cleared for surgery next week.  I see the podiatrist on Friday.

About Chuck

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

  1. Are you gonna get a new “nurse” before surgery? Cats make excellent nurses you know. 😉

Glad you are cleared and ready to go. The anticipation is always the worst part of any procedure. I’m glad you are going to have it done–I think you will be happy with the outcome.

    • We will be adding a nurse to the in-house staff. The ceilings project is not going as fast as I like, but this week we’ll be making a trip to the animal shelter. 😀 We have laid in supplies and are ready when we get this ceiling project mostly done.

I’m looking forward to having a new buddy to keep my lap warm when I kick back in the recliner to watch TV. :awe: Lily is still available. There are three other candidates as well. Are you more excited about this than me? Or is it the cheerleader spirit?

I’ve talked with family who’ve been through this, and I know that it will be worth some pain and inconvenience. 8)

  2. I like Mondays. I like this smiley too… :frolic: it reminds me of your birds running around chasing each other, haha, and you’re right w/what you said about that…the boy birds are always pretty. No fair.

Woo hoo on your clearance for surgery!!

    • Mondays are okay, but not everyone agrees with us. 😉

For human kind, it is summed up with the story of Adam asking God, “Why did you make Eve so beautiful?”

God answered, “So that you, my son, would fall in love with her.”

“Oh. But why did you make her so dumb?”

“That was so that she would fall in love with you.”

      Silence followed. 😯 :zip:

  3. You are so kind. You did not correct the lady, but accepted it. Helps make her Monday easier.

re Jackie’s observation: Perhaps the Monday scheduling is normal, but the Docs try to accommodate weekend-onset collywobbles by “working in” extra patients? 🙂

    • Kind? Yes indeed, I’m kind. The question is, which kind? :dontknow:

It maybe the weekend backup causes a Monday surge. Or it may be a case of “back to the salt mines.” 8)

Don’t know where you picked it up, but I thought “collywobbles” was a New England expression. FWIW, auto-correct thought collywobbles should be collectables. I have no idea who want to collect such things. :dontknow: Do you?

  4. I don’t understand why every DR. and even veterinarians always say Mondays are they busiest days. Do they all have the same problem with scheduling?

You are in my prayers and I am sure you will feel much better when this is completed and your feet are healed!

    Happy day! 🙂

    • I think it is summed up best by the Costa Rican expression, “Lunes azul y ni las gallinas ponen.” “Blue Monday and not even the hens lay.”

Thanks. Your prayers are much appreciated.

A blessed day to and for you. :frolic: :frolic:
