Ack, Hack = Yuck!

I envy this little guy today.  It is a chill and rainy day and I’m suffering with a cold.  I’d like to curl up in something warm and cozy and have a nice long nap.  That would be good!

Last Friday, Rebecca posted this article on her blog The Older Geek.  The post title is How to Tell if Your Blog Has Been Hacked.  That happened to me last year.  Some hacker or hackers added malicious code to this blog and to a few Websites that I manage.  It was a painful process and terribly embarrassing to have visitors greeted with a message warning of possibly malicious content.

Fortunately, I was able to eliminate the malicious content, but it took a couple of days.  I also changed user names and passwords.  I do not store passwords on my hard drive.  I have them organized in a notebook, but an extra thumb drive or memory card would also work well for that.

I have since switched to AVG free anti-virus program.  I am very pleased with that.  For safer browsing, I use Ad Aware, which blocks and warns the user of malicious code on a Website.

When you go to Rebecca’s, The Older Geek, take some time and browse through the other posts that you find.  I think you’ll find it not only interesting but very helpful as well.

Did I tell you that I really envy that kitten today?

About Chuck

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

  1. I hope you feel better soon, Chuck! I'm with you on the kitten thing. Who doesn't want to be a cat???

  2. feel better soon!

thanks for the info. I have visited her blog before and posted a link to it from my facebook on an article she wrote about crap that happens on FB. it is everywhere. some people just get a rush out of invading others privacy.

  3. I have been very happy with AVG Free, and I use Malabytes for Spyware detection. Used it to get rid of a nasty one last week.

  4. Awww. I hope you feel better very soon. I hope you get your nice long nap.

Thanks so much for the mention! I am so honored.

Your experience does sound awful. I wish hackers would go get their own durn blogs.

Take care, get plenty of rest. Do you have any echinacea tea? Celestial Seasonings calls it "Wellness Tea" and I am much improved after it.

    God bless. 🙂
