Problem fixed

It should be working this smoothly

I believe that the download problem is now solved.  It took a while, but the folks at the hosting company were great to work with.  Let me know if this is still slow to download.

I had pre-op lab tests this morning.  Nellie had her breakfast on time.  I was able to eat at 10:30 AM.  The clinic is across the street from The Big Boy restaurant, so I went there to eat.  I fit right it.  Most of the diners will never see 60 again and we were all having breakfast.  I use to think I was slow to get around.  I suppose I am . . . but I’m not the only one. :whaa:

Working on the Problem

This is how it is supposed to work

Thanks to those who have reported the slow download times for this blog.  I’m zeroing in on the cause and will work with my hosting company to fix it.  In the interim, please open this in one tab of your browser and visit some of our other friends in another.

This morning, Sylvia left for a week at her dad’s.  Before she left we were shredding cabbage and preparing it for the freezer.  The kitchen was a mess.  I was developing a nasty sinus headache.  When Sylvia left, the kitchen was spotless.  I told her that she had left me no excuse if she came home and found it messy. ❗

I’ve been working on an online project with our son in Omaha.  It has turned into an all-day affair.  That’s mostly my fault. :dunce:

I need a nap. :beam:

Nighttime Raider

Opossum — courtesy CT.gov

I didn’t sleep well last night.  Lower back pain was making it nearly impossible to sleep.  I arose from bed around 5 AM and looked out of the window.  A small animal was moving away from the barn.  I reached for my glasses as the critter found shelter in the shadow of the propane tank.

Soon, the little fellow moved out of the shadow.  From the pointed nose to the rat-like tail, I knew it was an opossum.

He searched under the apple tree, where he quickly found his treasure.  With an apple in his mouth, he ran for the shelter of shadow.

All that may explain why I haven’t seen very many apples under the tree.  I don’t mind sharing them the opossum.

Random Thoughts

As I sit here in front of an open window, I hear a peeper out there and he’s making a lot of racket.  I [noisily] cleared my sinuses a bit ago.  The fellow went instantly quiet and I thought, “Oh no!  I blew it.] :nono:

Why is it impossible to buy summer clothes in the summer time?  This time of year, you’ll only  find winter clothes and by Christmas, or thereabouts, you’ll find only spring wear.  Is the rest of the world that much better organized?  Does everyone else plan that much better?  I don’t get it.  (In more ways than one.)

Why do they call our later years the “Best Years?”  Is it just because they’re the last ones you are going to have here on Earth?  Don’t our bodies start to break down and wear out?  Am I missing something?

Why does dessert come after the meal?  If we ate it first, we’d probably stop sooner.  Am I being silly?  If so, why does Weight Watchers encourage its members to do exactly that?

All the world is mad dear friend save me and thee.

Blog Maintainence

Howdy!

I’ve been doing some updates on this blog today.  I’ve culled many images from my custom smilies and added some new ones. :badmood:   Having these is just one of the reasons I like WordPress so much. :awe:

I’ve tried to include the basics but not too many images and thus create confusion.  I could have added “Hello Kitty” to the group.  Do you think I should add her?  What about other smilies? :dontknow:

Sylvia is calling me to assist with downloading video files and burning them to CD for the kids at church.  I’d better get to it.

That kind of a day

Yesterday (Thursday), was that kind of a day. :stars:  And I was glad when it was over. :rain:

Tuesday, I had met with the surgeon who will removing my prostate gland at a date yet to be determined.  The meeting went well and I left feeling optimistic.  The minimally invasive procedure has a lot going for it, and some of his first words were, “You’ve chosen well.  This offers your best chance for a complete cure.”

We had a bit of trouble navigating around construction areas to get there, but we had allowed extra time to drive through the unfamiliar area.  We went home another way on mostly surface streets with lots of stops.

Thursday, I was scheduled with a pre-op session with the nurse.  It was a briefing and a training session.  We decided to take a different route to avoid construction.  However after leaving the expressway, we found the alternate route was closed.  Yes, construction. 🙁

I managed to get us lost.  We stopped twice to ask directions.  That got us more lost. :surrender:   Then I saw a Grand Rapids Police cruiser sitting at the side of the road.  As we pulled alongside, I greeted the officer, “It sure is good to see your face.”  Wow did I ever get a big grin back.  I’m sure he doesn’t get that kind of greeting very often.  And there is also the amusement factor of the poor old fellow who is lost and confused.  He gave directions to our destination and several minutes later we were pulling into the parking lot.

I was a quarter hour late, stressed and anxious.  I reported in at the receptionist, who responded to my apology with good humor and wit.

I took a seat to wait for the nurse.  Several minutes Sylvia came in from parking the car (I had gotten out at the main entrance).

It was another quarter hour before I was called in to the nurse’s office.  She explained that she hadn’t known I was coming before I arrived.  That session was very good.  I learned a lot of important facts and passed the training session (muscle control for post-op continence) with high praise.

Staffers suggested a route past the construction and to the expressway, which would take us to our son’s office.  We were already late to meet him, but it shouldn’t be too bad.  Shouldn’t.  Ha!

The directions were faulty, but once again a parked police cruiser and a friendly officer got us on the correct path.  We missed our son at his office, but he was waiting at the restaurant.  Actually, he had just finished eating, but stayed to chat with us and chuckle about our adventures for that day.

We arrived home at last and the sun had broken through the clouds.  I had a terrible headache.  I’d only had two sips of my daily huge cup of coffee that morning before we left.  The insulated cup was still on the table that afternoon.

Then we heard the sound that meant rain.  The sun was shining, but the rain was falling.

Sometimes it rains on a sunny day

That pretty well summed up the day.  Have you had days like that?

Surgery Coming Up

Okay, Dr Rodriguez will be using more sophisticated tools than those illustrated above.  It’s all very high-tech, but is my best chance for a complete cure.

We’re still working on scheduling, but procedures are in play now.  While I don’t eagerly await having part of me removed, I know it must be done.

Sylvia and I met with Dr Rodriguez this morning and he did some quick tests and then explained what it was all about.  Here’s a picture of the equipment he’ll use.

While the surgeon is at the controls, I’ll be strapped onto that table under that imposing machinery with all those sharps on the end.  That’s okay . . . they’ll send me away while they are working on my body.  Bye bye prostate.  And hopefully, bye bye cancer.

Special Day

Sylvia and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary today.  We’ll be headed into the city for an evening meal at an Italian restaurant.  Sylvia’s secret friend provided a couple of gift cards, and helped us decide where to go.  The location is less than a mile from where we normally go for those special occasions.

It’s been a busy day for us.  It will be nice to enjoy a relaxing evening away from other distractions.
