Magi followed the star
Today, January 6 (aka Epiphany) is the day that western churches celebrate the visit of the eastern magi to the young child, Jesus Christ. It is also the twelfth day of Christmas.
Today, some of our Puerto Rican friends will have gathered in Hartford, Connecticut for the Three King’s Day celebration and parade. If they follow their tradition, there will be camels, donkeys, elephants and other critters along with all the human folk.
In our house, we will wrap up our Christmas celebration and tomorrow we will pack up decorations for another year. Which is to say until after Thanksgiving this year.

I like that it should end today. Our tree (although the non-shedding kind this year) will be up till Feb or March.
Christmas for us, is not what it used to be. Our children and grandchild are all adults and no young uns. While the celebration has diminished somewhat, the joy and meaning continues to grow with each passing year.
Did yesterday’s storm drop much on you. I see up to six inches in our driveway.
It’s always interesting to hear about different cultures! We’ve got our decorations up still. We left the state for the holidays, and so my in-laws (and two cousins) will be swinging over this weekend, as well as good friends of ours. When that’s all said and done, I’ll pack it up until next year. 🙂

I can see that a lot of my neighbors celebrate this as well as their trees are still up. I’ve heard of this tradition, but we never celebrated it. If our tree was still up at this point, it was because nobody wanted to take it down. 😉
In our culture, there are few who are aware of Epiphany. Today (January 7), we took down our Christmas decorations and packed them away.
Burning of the greens was the way Twelfth Night was celebrated in one Indiana town where we lived. It was quite the event in the town park with the volunteer fire department standing by.

Chuck, as I recall, the Eastern Rite Churches celebrate Epiphany as one of their most holy days. Today is the day that the Greeks dive for treasured cross in Tarpon Springs. FL.
Bill, I believe that to be true. In Spanish and some Hispanic (Latin) cultures it is celebrated with that same reverence. Today, Spanish children received their Christmas gifts. :woot:
