Earlier this week, Midnight took sick. He had a rough night, but seemed a bit better the next. Soon we noticed that he was not eating. He would drink water, and so we hoped that he would get better. Wednesday evening, he took a turn for the worse.
Thursday morning, Sylvia called the vet. She was in surgery, and the assistant was not able to help us. Before the vet called back, Midnight stopped breathing. Our hearts are heavy.
We wrapped our friend in one of Sylvia’s old shirts. Midnight had often slept on that, and it seemed appropriate that he have that in his final rest. Sylvia and I buried him in a special place. We placed weeping willow branches at his head and at his tail. The ground is damp and those branches should grow and give us a fitting marker for our friend.
I must stop now. I’m sure you understand.
Hello Chuck, I too came over from Lin’s blog. I’m so sorry for your loss. When I saw Midnight’s photo I almost gasped. He looks so much like my Lancelot who I lost a few years ago. It’s never easy, especially when they go so soon. Peace to you and your family.

I’m so sorry for your loss of Midnight 🙁 I always looked forward to Midnight Monday. Rest In Peace to your little buddy
Chuck and Sylvia, I am so sorry to hear your friend is gone. Midnight hit the feral cat lottery jackpot when you took him in. He had a rich and full life though it was all too short.
Chuck & Sylvia – So sorry to hear about Midnight. Been there and done that so we how what a loss you feel. It was so much fun reading the stories you wrote about him and he was such a good friend. God Bless all of you.
Feeling yours and Sylvia’s loss deeply, Chuck. Our dear Lord cares even about the little sparrows; remember, you are held by everlasting arms (Deuteronomy 33:27), and you are loved with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). All will be well; we will all meet in peace one day, and see our beloved friends, even the furry ones, again there. God bless you; I love you, and we’re praying for you.

We love you.
I’m still in shock, Chuck, as I’m sure you are too. I wonder what happened and why he went so fast? It’s horrible when you lose them, but when you lose them so young, there is no satisfactory explanation.
I’m sending love and hugs to you and Sylvia. Please know that all of us at the Kautz house are very sad too. It’s never easy to lose a good kitty friend.
I just came over from Lin’s blog to let you know how sorry I am to hear about Midnight. It’s so hard to lose our furry ones but the pain will never erase the love that Midnight brought to your life. My thoughts are with you and my kitties are sending comforting purrs.
Hi, Chuck. I came over from Lin’s place. I’m sorry for your loss. It’s a crushing pain, I know. We’ve loved and lost kitties ourselves. We’ll always have them in our lives. What a beautiful burial. A favorite shirt is the very best thing. Take care.
Oh I am so very sorry. All of us here send you hugs; human, cat and goat. We know what it is like to lose a member of the family. We know indeed. Perhaps Midnight is running with Fred the Farm cat and they are having fun together.
Weeping Willow is the perfect memorial as it will represent all our tears. We will all miss him.
Hi Chuck…. came over by way of Lin’s blog…
I’m sorry you lost your little buddy…. and just want to send a hug to you and Sheila. Losing a furry friend is exactly the same as losing a family member…well, because they ARE family. It damn well hurts.
BIG hug
Veronica
The loss of a pet is a great loss. May you find comfort.
I am so sorry for you loss of Midnight. Good kitty friends stay with us for a lifetime.
I haven’t been here before but noticed on Lin’s blog that your kitty has left you and gone on to the land of willow trees. I’m so very sorry for your loss. It’s never easy to let go of a friend from the pet kingdom and I know your heart must be quite heavy. Please know that I’m thinking of you.
