Home Sweet Home

Last week, before the trip to the hospital and before the big snow storm, I slipped the camera into my coat pocket, put on my boots and went to get the mail. It was a nice day, I was feeling good, and so I decided to take the long way to get to the mailbox. This involves walking along side some pines and down to the low ground. The path leads through that area and eventually comes back to the lawn and from there to our secondary road.

As I was at the farthest point from the house, I looked in that direction. There was an interesting shot, but to get it I’d have to walk toward the house and get close to an area where cattails grow. Easily done, despite snow and tall weeds. I took a few shots, and liked this one best:

As you can see, it was a cloudy day and lighting was very flat. From there, I walked to the other side of the cattails where I took the shots that I posted on Wednesday. After that I continued onto the lawn and down to the road and on toward the mailbox.

In the mailbox, I found what I was waiting for. It was Adobe PhotoShop Elements 8. Great! I’m still learning how to use this wonderful program. One of my first experiments was to touch up that photo of our house. Intentionally, I pushed it a bit, hopefully not too much.

I made the foreground look like it had warm sunlight falling on it. Then I selected the background to bring out the contrast and to make the sky look more blue. The sky didn’t look blue. It was a winter day in Michigan with lead-gray sky.

There’s a lot to learn with PSE, and I’m looking forward to using it more in the days ahead. What program, if any, do you use to process your photos after they’re shot?

THANKS

I appreciate all the well wishes and prayers you have sent this way. I’ve had no more chest pains since the weekend. Yesterday, I had a previously scheduled colonoscopy and the results were better than I could have hoped for.

It is great to feel good and be eating real food in my own home. I really appreciate you guys and gals.

  1. I'm glad you are home and feeling better. There is no place like home!

Okay, when you figure out PS, will you teach me???

  2. I thank God to know that you are feeling good now and is doing well.
I have been coming here in your blog regularly, but I didn't noticed that you live in Michigan. My husband and I lived in Michigan 4 months ago. We were at the thumb area. I spent a year and a half there. I love Michigan, but we have to move here to get a better job. I heard there were a lot of snow lately there.
Take good care of yourself always. 🙂

  3. I use PSP for my editing but mostly like to leave my images untouched. However, as you said, there are those dull dreary days when the photo needs a little help to pop the colors!

  4. Eating real food in a place of comfort. Ah, yes, that is pleasure indeed! Glad all is well with your insides.

  5. Glad to hear hear you are back to (ha!) normal.

I was just wishing for PS the other day. I have an old program I don't even remember the name of.

Cobbler's children go barefoot, dontcha know!

  6. I am glad you are home – my computer died and I was unable to post or visit for that matter. So sorry to hear that you had to spend time in the hospital!
