Someone at church complained about all the snow and cold that we’ve enjoyed this winter. Someone else then spoke up and said, “This is a real winter, Winter has just been napping for the last forty years.” I add two observations: 1. It has not been that bad. 2. It has not been that long.
We were hit with more snow overnight. On Tuesdays, Sylvia works with a boy from Saranac. Since they’ve been working together one hour a week, his attendance and grades have markedly improved. She was a bit sad that school was cancelled today. I wasn’t sad, I didn’t want her driving her sedan through this much snow. (She could not have made it back up the driveway–there was packed snow and ice underneath the snow. I spent my morning clearing the driveway with the tractor’s front-end loader. (I finished with the fuel gauge on “E.”
Last night we heard the call go out from county central dispatch. A metal object on the I-96 west-bound entrance ramp from M-66 had resulted in at least two vehicles with flat tires. An officer was dispatched to the scene. A few minutes later, the officer called back, requesting assistance as there were wrecked vehicles “on both sides of the road.” We were feeling thankful that we didn’t have to be out moving around in those conditions.
This morning, while I was clearing the driveway, on M-66 just the other side of I-96 (at or near the exit ramp), an Ionia County snow plow had an incident as shown in the photo courtesy Fox 17.
It seems that there are multiple roll-overs and miscellaneous mishaps every time we get a bit of snow. Folks must have forgotten how to drive safely. But I could be wrong.
We’re kind of glad that Sylvia picks up her Jeep Liberty tomorrow. We’ll have to take a photo at the dealership while it is still bright and shiny. Because we live on a dirt road, shiny cars are a rare circumstance for us.
Finally, the garage door opener guy didn’t make it today . . . Must have been the weather.
Dang… I wasn’t pining too much for spring till you said rhubarb pie. But, I think I’ve had enough snow.
If you should drop in before this year’s rhubarb is ready, we have some in the freezer. We promise promise rhubarb pie on your next visit. :food: :awe:
Very strong winds last night and today. Meanwhile, temps are dropping. It is winter, isn’t it?
Not that dire an “incident” but picture on front page of our paper: snowplow stuck in ditch, traffic backed up whilst it’s being towed.
Interestingly, I have no trouble picturing that. :frustrate: And yet, I find visions of rhubarb pie beginning to float through my mind. :food:
If I didn’t have to drive in it, Chuck, I’d be fine. But I’ve spun out twice in six years, both on black ice, and both times on a highway across a median strip, & both times driving very carefully. I’m apprehensive to get behind the wheel in this mess, and I have to do it every school day…think white knuckle grip granny, and that’s me. I’m ready for the Spring. :surrender:
I understand your reticence. I’ve not had your experiences and, yet, I’ve had enough too. :beam:
It HAS been that bad in my opinion. I’m tired of commuting to work in this mess for it snarls the traffic and makes my day that much longer.
It is also very exhausting to have to climb over huge piles of snow to get to where I can reach the feral kitties den to feed them. The snow plow at work is stacking the snow up higher and higher and it’s getting dangerous to feed them.
And I’ll just add that I’m tired of bundling up with hats, coats, gloves, boots, and scarves to just GO OUT. It’s exhausting. If you have to be somewhere on time it’s very frustrating.
Just parts of the season at this latitude. This year has seemed worse, because so little of the fallen snow has melted. :nono: As one old time farmer is said to have said, “If ya cain’t stand the winters, ya don’t desahv the summers.” And our summers all are altogether glorious.
Snow stacks continue to grow around here. It really looks strange to see so much. Oh well . . . It’s easier to add a layer of clothing to keep warm. You don’t have as many options for staying cool by falling to opposite approach.
Do keep warm. Please. :hkitty:
