There’s a big weather change coming this way. An unusual weather pattern has prevailed thus far this winter. This has meant above “normal” temperatures. I’m not complaining. I have enjoyed the weather–while it has lasted. Temperatures will be dropping today, and we’re in for snow. My built-in weather station (aka my arthritic body) has been confirming what the weather prognosticators have been saying.
Fortunately I have a med that helps in times like these. I try to use this non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug as sparingly as I can. When I need it, there is nothing to substitute. I tried acetaminophen, but it is useless for me. In fact, when I stopped using it, I felt better. Go figure.
The best med for me just now is NASCAR Daytona testing sessions. The teams, drivers and cars have gathered at Daytona for pre-season testing in anticipation of the Daytona 500 (season opener) scheduled for February 26. From 9 AM to 12 PM today there was live streaming coverage on speed.com. Friday and Saturday will have the same schedule. From 1 to 5 PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, there will be live coverage on the Speed Channel. (There is an encore broadcast of the afternoon session in the early evening.)
It is good to see the sights and hear the sounds of 800 hp engines pulling cars around the track at over 190 mph. A few minutes ago as the morning coverage ended, Sylvia asked had I learned anything. I replied, “Yes, I love this stuff!”
It’s true. And I’m glad to have this flurry of on-track activity in the off season. Excuse me now, I have to take a pain med.
I am fortunate in that an occasional nsaid dose will alleviate my aches. Be well, Chuck. At least enjoy the roar of those engines! Keeps your mind off the less pleasant side of life.
Aw, I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you get well as fast as those cars!
Well, at least you found an antidote that works. Sometimes just getting your mind off your achy bones help–even if it is short-term.
I don't watch Nascar, but I've got my own addictions on the tube. 🙂
Hope you are feeling better and this winter goes FAST!
Daytona always falls around our anniversary. I cannot tell you how many of them I sat in that grandstand reading a book. He finally wised up and left me back in the trailer and took a friend who would enjoy the race. I enjoyed the trailer and my book.
I hope you feel better. We got the cold overnight. Brrrrrrrr.
