Sunday evening the planets Venus, Jupiter and Mercury hung low in the western sky shortly after sunset you could see them there. To an earth-bound visitor, there were less than 3 degrees separation between the three planets. I had hoped to capture an image of that event. Unfortunately, the western sky was obscured by cloud cover.
Fortunately, I had an opportunity on Saturday evening and captured the event in our camera. The camera saw this:
I was pleased to complete the capture of this infrequent celestial event. However to my eye, it looked more like this.
Sylvia left to spend the next week with her dad. I’m hoping she’ll get a little rest while she’s there. This last week has been more than a bit busy for her.
Nellie (our cat) and I will have the opportunity to get closer. She has been with us for 16 weeks now and the walls of fear and distrust have eroded greatly in that time. She is still a bit shy. I don’t expect that to completely disappear.
Memorial Day
Today, I’m remembering those who have served our country with honor. Especially, I think of those who gave all.
Neat sky shot. I am apparently not obsessed with the astronomy as much as some other things. I spent a night with 6 cats on Wednesday… four of them were Maine Coons. BIG.
I’ve heard of, but have never seen a Maine Coon cat. I would like to meet one.
The astronomy interest started when I was in junior high. I was given a college text on astronomy and I found it fascinating. At one time I had a large telescope. These days, I use my eyes and sometimes binoculars. I’ve had fun taking sky shots with the camera.
How lucky that you got this on film!! I didn’t know the planets were going to visible like that or we’d have gone out too. I did see a most fabulous moon a couple of nights ago, one of the best I’ve seen…but we were out and I didn’t have my camera along.
I might have missed this one, but I do keep an eye on the Website:

I understand the feeling from seeing something great and not having the camera at hand. But I don’t want the camera to rule my life either. Perhaps you see something equally as good another time. 8)
I love that you can see the stars so well there. The city lights here block a lot of the stars for us. 🙁
I’m glad you are making progress with Nellie. Sometimes you just don’t know where your kitty has been or what she has been through and it takes a lot for them to trust again.
We had a kitty named Bob when I was in my teens. Poor thing had a broken jaw that had healed crooked. Years later we took her in for x-rays for something and saw that her poor little body had a few bb’s hidden inside. God knows what she had been through. That said, she was devoted to us who took her in. Sweetest little thing ever. I hate to think of what she had lived through before us.
That is one of the joys of living out here in the country. And I do enjoy viewing the heavens.
Others have said that that rescue kitties are often this way. It doesn’t matter. We’re going to love on her anyway.
You were fortunate to have a cat like Bob. Did she have a short tail?

LOVE secondary roads, and tertiary ones are pretty good, too. Nice post. I wandered over from “Vanilla” but I will visit again. Have a nice Memorial weekend. …Marsha
Hi Marsha,
Thanks for the visit and the comment. Vanilla has become a very good friend over recent years. Hope you had a good weekend. 8)
The song “Age of Aquarius” popped into my head.
Okay . . . That’s a different alignment. But I do understand. 8)
