Aunt Marie

Yesterday the funeral for my Aunt Marie Wyman was held in Leslie, Michigan.  Sylvia and I were there along with my sister, Clara, and her husband, Rick.

Marie Wyman 1925 – 2013

Marie married one of my mother’s younger brothers.  They had two daughters (Eleanor and Bev) and a son (Jerry).  For years, we’ve exchanged Christmas cards and a letter.  That’s how we kept up with each other.  In 2008, she left the home where she had lived for 62 years.  She moved to Negaunee in Michigan’s upper peninsula where she lived with her younger daughter.

Last month, I found that the cousin that my aunt lived with is on FaceBook.  We became FB “friends.”  At the funeral, when Cousin Jerry said, “Now we are the old folks,” Clara said, “What about Uncle John.”  Cousin Bobby reported that his father (Uncle John) had passed on December 27.  Cousin Jerry is correct.

Aunt Marie was suffering with Alzheimer’s and problems brought on my that.  As one daughter observed, “She had suffered enough.”  At least she lived to see a great great grandson.

And now . . . we are the old folks.

  1. Oh, I’m so sorry about your aunt, Chuck. I have included your family in my prayers today.

I think Rebecca has not heard of Mean Old Man….he hates everybody.

    • Thanks Lin. Your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated.

Just ‘cuz mean old man hates, doesn’t mean that we have to return that self-destructive xxxx. (What is hate? Attitude? Emotion? Feeling? Vice? Life-style?)

Perhaps we need to point Rebecca toward Duck and Wheel with String? Then she could learn about things like that. And frogs and HR stuff . . . 😉

  2. I am sorry to hear this news Chuck but it sounds as if she had a long rich life. And, you are correct. We are the old ones now. I realized that when my mom passed. I am it now.

I am the Matriarch! It’s actually quiet nice and I feel young and you and Sylvia certainly seem to be with it….well, I am still waiting on the Zumba!! :yea:

I hope you both have a blessed week!

    • She did have a long life and a good one too. At the end she was suffering for Alzheimer’s and all the degenerative effects that go with it.

I still feel like I’m too young to be one of “the old folks.” Okay, I’ll admit that “things” are starting to catch up with me. I’m very glad that I tried Zumba, but I don’t plan to go back. Sylvia is a regular and intends to continue.

May your week be blessed to Jackie. :angelic:

  3. Leslie is a lovely area. When we moved here, we considered purchasing a house right across from the high school.

As for your news, 🙁 I’m sorry about your aunt, it sounds like she lived a long life and was very loved.

    • Leslie is where I grew up. The folks moved back there in 1943 just before dad went into the USAAC (US Army Air Corp).

Thanks. She did, and she was!

  4. Sorry to hear about the sad news. XO

I like “old folks.” Growing up with my grandparents at an early age, I have always preferred their company to the young whippersnappers. They are thoughtful, witty, quiet, and they are more likely to judge a person by the content of their character abd not by their hairstyle or expensive clothing. So, rock on, old guy. 🙂 :yea:
