Family Christmas

Bryant, Barbara, Briana, Sylvia and Chuck

Last Sunday afternoon, we had our family Christmas celebration.  Briana’s friend, Jake, was here for a while, but had to return to campus before we took pictures or ate.  He did take a piece of Sylvia’s cherry pie with him. :food:   The rest of us had ours after salads and baked potatoes.  Yum yum!

To me this is the best part of Christmas–those few hours that we enjoy each others company.  Unfortunately, Scott, our other son wasn’t able to be with us.  Nevertheless, it was fun as we talked about the things that we’ve been doing and that we plan to do.

Tomorrow, Saturday, we’ll go to Sylvia’s dad’s house for that family get together.  It is a big group and we’ll have some crazy fun.  If the past is any indication, we will survive. 😉

Christmas isn’t the same since we lost Sylvia’s mother.  She always made it such a special time for all.  She would spend half the year in planning and preparation for the Christmas celebration.  We try to keep the traditions alive, but it’s not the same.  Still, Christmas is all about family and I hope that never changes.

About Chuck

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

  1. We went to church w/a couple we really like who live close to my in-laws. Then we headed to their house for a little visit time. Afterwards we headed to the in-laws where everyone in the family on my husband’s side was gathered and we stayed until late in the evening (even though hubby had to work today!). A good time was had by all. I love to visit my in-laws.

Glad you had a nice visit too. The pic is great!

  2. Oh wow! What a GREAT family shot. 🙂 Makes me smile to see you all together–it’s hard for families to all be together much anymore, isn’t it? I’m glad you had a nice time.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas, Chuck! I’m so very glad that we finally got the group together this summer–what a highlight that was! We may just have to do it again this summer. 🙂

    • Thanks Lin! We had all our family (six of us) together to celebrate our 50th anniversary last year. That was super special for Sylvia and me.

We wish all of the Kautz family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Good idea on the gathering of BPMs :yea:

  3. Such a lovely family you have. You and Sylvia are looking great! My family is spread out. Eleanor is in Tennessee, Jerry in Onondaga, MI, my son in Calumet, MI (about 2 hours from me) and my daughter & 2 granddaughters in Springport, MI. Bill (my husband) , Mother and I was able to share a Thanksgiving holiday with Julie (my daughter). Christmas will be spent here with Bill’s Daughter, 2 Granddaughters and 2 Great Granddaughters (they really make it a holiday for me). Sorry to say I don’t think Mother will be able to share this holiday with us. She was taken by ambulance to Marquette General Hosp. Friday Dec. 14th – released Monday the 17th to Marquette Community Medical Care Facility. They diagnosed her with congestive heart failure, internal bleeding and a dangerously low temperature, kidneys were not stable either. It’s a day by day program now. Bill and I will of course be visiting her every day, just won’t be the same.

    • Thanks Beverly, It is so good to be in contact again! We were quite sad to learn of your mother’s condition. You are in our prayers.

I enjoyed going through your family pics on FaceBook. You have been blessed and may that continue.

  4. Such a beautiful group. And I say that because I know the people (two of you anyway, in person). Glad you had good times together. Travel safely- maybe the roads will be better by tomorrow. Pretty bad here today.

    • Aww . . . You say the sweetest things. Perhaps some day you will get to meet the rest of us.

If we had doubt before, now we know that winter has arrived. And that right on schedule. 😀

Looks like the world is not ending today, so we’re getting ready for tomorrow and will drive with extra care. You take care too. Okay?
