Take Cover!

An e-mail from my son told me of the storm that hit Kentwood.  Later, I read that a confirmed EF-1 tornado had hit the area.

Fortunately, this is not the area where our son and daughter-in-law live.  They only  experienced a brief power outage.

Today on FaceBook, my cousin, Beverly, posted an article about our home town.  There was in “incident” at a plating facility, which is not far from where we lived.

You don't want to breath that smoke!

You don’t want to breath that smoke!

I used to walk this way to school.  That was many years ago.

  1. I’m glad your son was not ill affected by that storm. And oh my to the smoke cloud. That is def. an incident. 🙁

  2. I am glad to hear that your son and family were not in the path of destruction from the tornado. I have lived in ‘tornado alley’ all my life, and have had a few close calls.
As for the other picture, all I could think is, “Isn’t that pretty pink smoke.” I do hope no one was injured in the mishap.

    • Thanks, Ida. :tiphat:

I’ve found no report of injuries from the fire. The smoke was “pretty,” but it had county emergency management officials concerned and hazmat teams onsite. ❓

  3. Oh my, tragedy all around. I don’t usually think about tornados being in Michigan.

  4. Howdy, Neighbor! The Governor said there was an EF-0 tornado in our county sometime Monday but I slept through it all.

    • Hey Friend! I didn’t know we had that kind of action here in our county. :uh: I’m guessing it missed our neighborhood. We should be grateful for that. :tiphat:

  5. I get 911 notifications about road closures and other emergencies that affect the public in Ingham County. When I saw this one, I went to the TV stations to see what was going on. I was really surprised by the adrenalin rush. It was NOT an excited rush, but a scared rush. We walked by there to get anywhere. I tagged Bev because Uncle Al worked at the lumber yard for awhile and it was even closer to where she lived as a kid. Now it is/was a chrome plating plant.

An update: The news indicated there was an action plan add they covered all the storm sewer/manhole covers with plastic and sand. The hadn’t found any toxic substances in the sand as of the noon news today so they’re confident they contained the nasty stuff.

    • I checked out the story on WLNS and WILX Websites and MI-Live. It must have been a lot of excitement for nearby residents. :stars:

As you say, if we left the neighborhood, we had to go that way. :surrender:
