I’m Funned Out

This past week was a flurry of activity.  There was always something happening.  It wasn’t my usual, “It’s been a very quiet day,” routine.

Christmas eve (Wednesday) church service while snow accumulated on my car. Christmas (Thursday) we were with family (Bryant, Barbara and Briana).  Friday evening featured the wedding of two friends–more on that coming up.  On Saturday, Sylvia’s family held their traditional Christmas dinner.

I get tired just thinking about that schedule.  (Things don’t move as fast out here on our secondary road.)  Saturday night it caught up with me.  Sleep fled while I pursued.  It was 4 AM before I caught sleep and wrestled it into submission.

I missed church on Sunday.  Now, this week will seem completely out of whack.

The Wedding

Frank and Missy have been dating for years.  Now they are man and wife.

Newly Weds

Newly Weds

Aren’t they a beautiful couple?  They’ve been married before, so some of the traditions were dropped from the ceremony.

The crowd was assembled at tables in the hall.  Then the theme from Rocky began to come out of the speakers.  People began to stand.  What?  We stood.  There came Frank with Missy on his arm.  They walked briskly toward the altar.  Near the altar stood Missy’s father.  The couple stopped dad hugged daughter and spoke into her ear.  Then dad shook Frank’s hand and they walked up to the parson.  After the exchange of vows and rings, they were pronounced man and wife.  The reception began.  It all went perfectly!

I leaned over to Sylvia and said, “My feet are killing me” (arthritis).  She replied, “I have to bake three dozen rolls for tomorrow.”  I asked, “Do you want to go?”  “Let’s.”

It was nearly midnight when Sylvia came to bed.  The end of a beautiful day.  The beginning of a wonderful marriage.

May God bless this couple.

  1. I’m not big on attending weddings. Glad this one seems to be a good choice. And glad you knew when to leave. A girl and guy I work with are getting married after living together for 11 years. Interesting. They also told me then attend a sister church of ours (one of the Res Life spinoffs). I never would have guessed from the language they use. We are all a work in progress, I suppose.

    • You would have loved this wedding. It was non-traditional even after that entry to the Rocky theme entry.

I agree that we are all (each one of us) a work in progress.

  2. And thus it is that no matter how serene life may be on the secondary road, you manage to scuttle all that for four days of frenetic activity? Oh, well; Christmas comes but once a year!

  3. Wow! You certainly had a lot going on this past week! And they were all big events! You must be exhausted. I know I would be. I can only handle so much fun, you know?

Nice to see a wedding tucked into the holiday. I’ll bet it was beautiful amongst the Christmas trees and sparkly lights. 🙂

    • Yes, I’m very tired. The wedding was super-good. They are a terrific twosome and all of their friends have been waiting for the day they “tied the knot.” :woot: I liked the fresh non-traditional flavor of the event. 😎

  4. I, too, wish God’s blessings on this couple. They radiated happiness and it made my heart just sing to see them together. But, alas, I left early also. Things to do the next day raced through my mind – but, memories of this wedding lasted throughout the night as I cooked and baked. Many happy memories there, made more memorable because daughter Sam was able to be there as well as brother Marcus.

    • Don’t you love the way that the happy couple seemed to glow? :awe: Everything about the couple and the ceremony seemed, to me, to be perfect. :cloud9:
