The Road Ahead

HappyNewYear

Yesterday, I had a session with my chiropractor.  Afterward, I returned home.  Shortly after I left the office, I turned onto to the state highway.  About a half-mile ahead it was l like a white sheet had been draped across the road.  It might have been a fog bank, but conditions weren’t right for that.

As I neared that area I could see that it was the edge of a snow storm.  I drove a few miles through that, and then came out the other side the way was perfectly clear ahead.  I made a turn off the highway and after going about a mile.  Another white “sheet” limited my view.  It was not falling snow.  It was wind-blown snow, or drifting.  Through that area the road is a few feet above the fields to each side.  This results in an aerodynamic effect that lifts the snow from the grown and “sucks” it up into the wind. (It’s the Bernoulli effect if you’re interested.)  I was soon past that spot and the way home was once again clear.

Snow

Sometimes life is like that.  You can’t clearly see the way forward.

  1. I’ve seen it by my MIL’s home in Eaton Rapids. Winter driving makes me long for summer. Then again, most things make me long for summer. :hkitty:

    • I’m looking out the window (8:45 AM, Sunday) at heavy snow falling it should be fun getting to church (and back) today. Fortunately, I have Sylvia’s 4wd Jeep today and it’s only a mile to church. 😎

  2. The wind blown snow on the road always seems the most dangerous to me. I get that on the way to one particular town every time it snows.

  3. I haven’t had that problem here, although it did frost (lightly) 2 weeks ago, on roofs and cars. But I still have vivid memories of those times from many years ago. Hope you had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year. We are eating citrus from our trees, also just picked a stem of bananas, about 35 large bananas.

    • Robert, I know that you are enjoying retirement in Florida. I’m content with being here among the frozen chosen. That citrus sure sounds good. Especially a ruby grapefruit or a navel orange. We had a great Christmas, thank you. Wishing you and yours an excellent 2015. Keep watching. :cloud9:
