Yesterday between 2 AM and 5 PM, an inch and a half of rain fell. The three quarters of an inch fell over night. While Thursday was a gloomy day, the rain was very light during most of the day. That was until we were returning home after meeting our son Bryant for lunch. We walked back to car with no rain falling. Soon we were in light sprinkles. These increased as we continued east toward home. About half-way there, we pulled on to the I-96 expressway. The rain was still light and the Rain-X treatment was enough to keep the windshield clear. For a while.
Soon the rainfall increased. I turned on the intermittent wiper.
It became heaver. I changed the wiper control to continuous.
It became very heavy. I switched to high-speed wiper.
The rain became extremely heavy. The windshield started to fog. I turned on the defroster.
We were in what we used to call a “frog-strangling gully washer.” Traffic was down to 50 MPH. We were able to see our exit and get on to the secondary roads that lead home.
That was not fun.
As I was writing this I thought back to last week. I sat here in the office composing a post. I looked out the window at the burning bush. One of the leaves bobbed down and then back up. What was that? A few seconds later, another leaf did the same. It continued. The pace increased, but by then I knew that it was the first drops of rain. It was only a light shower, but I liked the way the leaves bobbed down and back up as they were hit by the falling rain drops.
In case you missed it, today is Constitution Day. A day worth remembering.
We got light but constant drizzle here. It's warm, foggy, overcast with high humidity.
Wow- we didn't get that rain. I think we have some coming now.
I am lovin this rain. means I don't have to water the lawn or flowers. 🙂
Yesterday I found the world's biggest mud puddle. We should compare note!
I could devote a complete blog to rainfall In Scotland, I know how you felt.
The rain hit the roof of the RV at 3:06 a.m. Gone before daylight. But when we got home, we found–
