Ice That Lingers

We had more freezing rain over Wednesday evening.  We canceled all evening activities at church Wednesday evening.  Driving conditions were very hazardous.  The local paper had this picture in yesterday’s paper.

I’m glad folks didn’t try to make it to church Wednesday night with that ice on the roads.  It’s better to stay at home.

I woke Thursday morning and looked out to see this by the barn.  I was hoping it would go away.

The slightly curved line behind the trees is an Amateur Radio Antenna.  But the rotary beam is what I looked at next, and saw:

Those ends are drooping very low.  Fortunately, the bright sun was enough to clear the road by late morning even though the air temperature was well below freezing.  Unfortunately, it didn’t melt ice off from aluminum.  That big antenna still looked the same way when the sunset Thursday night.

We might not get above freezing before the first of next week.  However, it depends on who is right.  Some sources say today (Friday) will top freezing.  Others say Monday is that day.  I’m hoping that ice is gone soon.

When it comes to weather, I’m beginning to believe that “normal” is a concept conceived by a diseased mind.  What do you think?

  1. Ice and snow is only lovely in Dr. Zhivago. Otherwise I'm just worrying about what kind of damage it causes.

  2. Yikes! I sure feel sorry for that truck driver. Been there…done that… and it ain't no fun 🙁

  3. Ice is so very beautiful but so very destructive.
I too am hoping some semblance of normal returns.

  4. I think there is no "normal" weather in the Midwest. 20 years ago this week FEMA declared a major part of Indiana a disaster area due to, you guessed it, ice storm.
