⁸ This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.

⁹ Honor the LORD with your wealth,
with the firstfruits of all your crops;

¹⁰ then your barns will be filled to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.

¹¹ My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline
and do not resent his rebuke,

¹² because the LORD disciplines those he loves,
as a father the son he delights in.

True wisdom realizes how much it doesn’t know. How much it fails to grasp and understand. Solomon speaks about this shortcoming and gives the remedy.

In Chapter 26, he says this:

^10:7a The memory of the righteous will be a blessing.

^20:7 The righteous man leads a blameless life; blessed are his children after him.

^23:22 Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.

²³ Buy the truth and do not sell it;
get wisdom, discipline and understanding.

²⁴ The father of a righteous man has great joy;
he who has a wise son delights in him.

On this Father’s Day, I am thankful for my father. I’m even more thankful for my two sons, Bryant and Scott.

Proverbs 2:6-8 For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. (NIV)

11:28b the righteous will thrive like a green leaf. (NIV)

21:21 He who earnestly seeks after and craves righteousness, mercy, and loving-kindness will find life in addition to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God) and honor. (Amplified Bible)
