Dramatic Sky

On Saturday, I went out to check the garden.  The peas were ready for picking.  Everything else was looking good.  That’s when I realized that there was something different about the light.  A glance at the sky sent me back to the house to fetch the camera.

Here’s what I had seen:

We don't often see shelf clouds like this

On the front deck I capture more images.

This looked ominous

Peas can wait.  I’m taking pictures.

The front kept moving toward me

A couple of seconds later, I could see an interesting boundary passing over head.

Does it make you feel uncomfortable?

Does it make you feel uncomfortable?

There would be no more images of interest in this system.  I turned and walked back in the house.

Shortly after the door closed the rain began.  Heavy rain.  Very heavy rain.

Zucchini and butternut squash are not appreciating all this rain.  I don’t like to see their yellow leaves.  However, it was fun to watch this front approaching.

  1. If you wait long enough, a hole will form.
    You can enter then.
And I shall have endless stories from you.
    From the fourth dimension.
    How wasteful it is.
    Sigh…..

  2. I’ve seen some great pics of that shelf. I thought it wasn’t as defined here, but then a local friends also put up some shots. I can taste those peas! I’m way behind on blog reading, but I care about you guys even if I don’t get caught up.

    • I also saw better shots of the shelf online, but this is what I saw. Thanks for finding time to leave a comment.

      • Back in my gardening days we would plant peas along the garden fence on Valentine’s Day. We would pick them on Memorial day, pull the vines and plant the Kentucky Wonders. I like fresh garden peas, canned ones: not so much.

        • Sylvia planted two varieties this year the early ones are about finished. The later ones are producing bigger pods and very tasty peas. Fresh from the garden they have better flavor, color and nutrition. Yum yum!
