Pet Peeves

Pet peeves . . . we all have them.  What is yours?  The other evening as Sylvia and I were returning home after dark, I was reminded of one of mine.  We met a fellow coming toward us on the narrow road with his fog lights on.  It was a clear night.

If you live in town, you probably don’t run into these bozos.  Out here in “the sticks,” they are all too common.  Okay, I know why they do it.  You turn those babies on and it lights up the night.  You can see what’s in the ditch–on both sides of the road.  You can see so much more than you can with just your low beams.  Also, our county is one of the top in the state for car v deer incidents.  So I do understand.  I just don’t appreciate.

Those fog lights cast a wide beam.  That includes into the face of oncoming drivers.  Aarrrgh!

Do you ever experience that?  How do you feel about it?

And what’s with drivers that pass you on the expressway, and then as soon as they are just clear of your front bumper, they cut right over to your lane?  :frustrated:

  1. I always wonder why they slow down after they pass me and cut in front of me. What’s up with that anyway? We’re doing the limit but still they just have to pass and have to speed to pass me and then they cut in front and slow down. I think the light sand the passing thing is something we all deal with!

  2. Agreed. The headlights thing makes it difficult to drive at night. Sometimes, people forget to turn off the brights, though — including me! :dunce:

    • On my ’97 Dodge, it’s either high-beams or fog lights, but not both. In Quito, Ecuador driver would turn off headlights when the approached one another. In town there were street lights, and they used those to navigate. I asked an Ecuadorian about that and was told that they used to turn on their high-beams when they approached another driver. Eventually they decided that that was a bad idea. Hence the change. People are strange.

  3. We have a new thing on the roads here…if you want to go somewhere, just aim your car and make everyone get out of your way. It drives me nuts! It’s like playing chicken every single day. If someone wants to get in between you and the car in front of you and you don’t see them or get enough time to slow down, they just turn into that spot, forcing you to slam on your brakes. It’s madness. And dangerous. I had a woman drive on the median next to me until she forced me over. Ugh.

I’m lucky to be alive after my commute each day. :frustrated:

    • I hate driving in the city–any city. Okay, when we lived in Quito, Ecuador I would sometimes, drive the Engineering Department’s 3/4 ton Ford V8 pickup truck with the big stick shift. It was fun to drive among those compact cars with that V8 roaring. I felt like Moses watching the sea of cars to make room. Of course, I did have to watch out for bigger trucks and buses. The guys that drove those were crazy. Yah, that was fun. 😀

  4. I have one more! The Travel Channel never has anything about travel on it when I go to visit. There’s ghost stories, weird food places, and so on and so forth, but never anything travel related, grrr.

And on further contemplation, I have to say your pet peeve is far too nice, You’ve defended (and very nicely, I might add), the very offenders who have prompted your post. You need to beef up the grouch in ya, your nice is showing through. :m2:

    • I also wrote a post for the church blog on patience today. Please don’t be mean to me for “practicing what I preach.” I’m not going to quote what I say to the inside of the windshield when I meet one of those jokers. Okay? :beam:

  5. I’m feeling laid back and mellow today, but I have way too many. Things that promise something but don’t deliver. People who lie to me and think I don’t know they did. The phone (in general, and Mr. Stu Pid has not improved that situation). Direction manuals or diagrams with no relationship to reality. That one is on my mind today!

    • That last one resonates well with me. We just bought an electronic gadget that came with a fold out “easy-to-understand” manual. 🙄 It might be what they claim, but it’s only pictures of screens, which are too small to see.

  6. The woodpecker who knows it’s too high up to climb where he’s pecking is my current pet peeve.

I can be found stewing over others at any given time though. :frolic:

  7. I’ve so many pet peeves it is getting hard to find time to feed them all. I do take one up and stroke it a bit from time to time.
