Sightings

I sat here at the computer on a recent sunny afternoon.  I looked up from the monitor and there standing beside my driveway was a deer.  A male.  “How beautiful,” I thought.  “If I had my camera.”  Then I realized the camera was there on the desk.  I picked it up and grabbed a couple of shots.  (These were to blurry to be of use.)

Then I stood where I had a better angle to steady the camera.  The buck was approaching the fence and I tried to time the shot to catch him mid leap.  Fail!

Just passing through. He was soon gone.

The automatics in the camera are nice, but only for some things.  I didn’t have time to switch to a fast burst mode.  I like to use that and then sort through, say 40 frames for the best shot.  The rest I then delete.

Several days later, I looked out the dining room window where I saw a group of the girls searching for some grass to chew.

These three were later joined by a fourth doe and then they were gone

The scene changes every day.  No two are ever alike.  I like that.

  1. What a wonderful site right out your window!! I imagine that is your entertainment–the ever-changing landscape, the animals…..

Most times I just give up with grabbing the camera and just stop to enjoy it for me. I hope that isn’t too selfish. Hobbes and I enjoyed watching a big fat opossum the other night—such a silly treat.

    • It is an endless source of wonder and joy.

You are not selfish . . . you were sharing with Hobbes. Sylvia and I a similar thing in September as we watched an opossum sneak under the apple tree, grab an apple and disappear into the darkness.

  2. I love the deer coming in the yard too. We haven’t seen near as many as usual this year. I’m here to wish you and your wife a Happy Thanksgiving. 🙂

    • Boredom only comes to those who are not comfortable in their own skin or who are to lazy to observe their surrounds.
