Our vegetable garden is now out of this frame to the left. We are planning to move it into the area that is near (within 50 feet of) the house in the right side of this picture. This will bring our veggies to a place with more sunshine and that is also easier to water. (It will be very much closer to the water tap.)
We are thinking of adding rhubarb along one side and a large asparagus bed along the other side. In other words, perennials along the two long sides with annuals in the strip down the center. I’m also thinking of permanent fencing along the two long sides. Temporary or movable fencing would close in the ends. This will allow me to open the ends and till the center strip with the tractor. Fencing is needed to keep out deer and rabbits.
Do you have any thoughts or suggestions for me before I begin? I would appreciate your help.
Family Fun
We’ll be attending a graduation open house for a niece’s daughter (my sister’s granddaughter) this evening. I’m looking forward to seeing all those folks and getting caught up on their latest news.
We missed another open house for a different niece’s daughter (same grandmother) last weekend. I felt bad about missing that one, but I was feeling bad from a second summer cold. I sure hope those are over–at least for this year.
Hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
A fence to repel deer? Hmm, can you say "Berlin Wall"? Maybe with armed gunports? That *might* work.
I have chicken wire wrapped around a layer of regular wire fencing to keep the rabbits out. The chicken wire is only 2 feet up, and i bent the last foot down over the soil, so the critters can't burrow in. It's worked well. For repelling rabbits.
Sounds like you have a big project going! No suggestions–I don't have a big vegetable garden, just flowers. I sure hope you can keep the critters out though!
Have a good weekend, Chuck! sounds like a busy one.
make that fence high
