The Explorer

Sylvia had reported a problem with a dresser drawer.  It wouldn’t close all the way.  She called me to come and then demonstrated the problem.  As the resident handyman, I got right to work.  I removed the drawer and immediately saw the problem.  The repair would require a screw and a screwdriver.  I sat the drawer on the bed and went to the basement workshop to retrieve the parts.

I returned just in time to see Midnight poised on the floor and studying the opening left by the missing drawer.  As I watched, He lower his tail and rose tall on his front paws.  This posture means he’s lining up for a leap.  And leap he did–right into the opening.  Amazing!

“Hey, I want to get to the other side.”

Once he had leaped into the dresser, he decided he wanted to be on the other side.  Isn’t that just like a cat?  The center support track was to high for him to step over.  No problem.

“Too high?  I’ll go under.”

Too high to step over, but not too low to go under.  Midnight easily slid under the support track and reached the other side.

“Purrfect!”

Soon he was enjoying the view from high in the dresser.  Explorers like to do things like that.  And with an intrepid explorer like Midnight, there is never a shortage of drama around the house.

Seen at Tiger’s

Sylvia saw this cartoon in the latest Reader’s Digest.  I thought you might enjoy it too.  Especially, if you have a feline or felines in your house.

Kitty does make a good point.  Why do we put temptation in kitty’s path?  Or do you do that?

  1. Anonymous – More's the pity for Midnight's sake that he won't be meeting a faun. That's a good verification word.

Vanilla – Life is indeed grand! So we are suckers, but that okay.

Rainfield – He is handy to have around the house, but he doesn't do well with a screwdriver. If only he had thumbs like ours. 🙂

Pricilla – Cats always have to be in the center of the action.

Lin – I suspect it is them. They go there after we go to bed and before closing time. They do like to get into those places, don't they?

Rebecca – Silly kitty! But we love 'em anyhow.

  2. Looks like Midnight and Hobbes at the local bar. 🙂 So….that's where he goes after dark!

Isn't it amazing how interested they are in the smallest of spaces? Although these days, I'm thinking if I could fit, I'd be in there hiding too.

  3. Silly cat. Silly humans. Isn't life grand!

wv: suckerpl. This may imply that people are the suckers in this relationship. 😉

  4. Sorry Midnight, that's not the entrance to Narnia. Guess you won't be visiting Pricilla's half-cousin Mr. Tumnus after all.

Word verification: amorisc – Taking a chance on love. (spanglish)
