Vexing Problems

160319a

This last week, brought enough bad news to last for the rest of this year.  Most of it involved friends and colleagues who are going through difficult times.  Problems range from relationships, finances, health to emotional troubles.  It left me feeling more than a little bit sad.

The beat continues today with news that our pastor’s wife has gone to be with her mother.  The prognosis is not good and doctors say her mother might not make it past the weekend.  At least the focus, come Sunday, is on resurrection.  We can all find comfort it that.

For our part, Sylvia and I are fine.

  1. Although the separation from a particular person is always difficult, I hope that when I get there, I’ll still be of the opinion that death is simply the next step, rather than a bad thing. Sorry you had lots of bad news. ❓

  2. By thanking God each day for the positive things in my life and praying for guidance in the problems that I may face or the bad news that has to be faced, I can find some peace of mind and soul.

    • It is indeed the best way to give thanks for the good things in life. We should also give thanks for the bad things too. As James wrote, “My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy . . .” (James 1:2)

  3. I am very sorry to hear this troubling news. I will say extra prayers for your friends who are going through difficult days. We have all been there, so I make extra room for those who need some prayers. May their burden be lightened and they be given strength to see it through to brighter days.

  4. Coming home from town a few minutes ago I was singing, “The God in the good times is still God in the bad times. When things go wrong He’ll make everything right.” Tears flowing down my cheeks. Yes, He will, and we know that His answers will be according to His timing and they will be right.

  5. I’m sorry about the bad news you have had recently. I hope those going through difficulties have great friends who lift their names to God in prayer. That makes all of the difference.

    • In each case, there are friends and family that are praying. It is not easy to watch someone you care about go through difficult times. The message of this week is that the suffering of the cross (whatever that means in your life or mine) must be endured to win the glorious resurrection victory.
