About Chuck

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

  1. I've tried to take pictures of the planets before without much success. Is there a website you use to find out where the planets will be?

  2. Ratty, I started sky watching early too. I bought a cardboard tube telescope from Edmund Scientific (I think) when I was in Jr High. As an adult I had a 6" telescope, but sold it and today use naked eye or binoculars (7×50 or 10×70).

Sharkbytes, I shot those with Sylvia's CMC-TZ5 point-and-shoot camera in the "night portrait" mode. I am amazed at its performance. I used a tripod to steady things.

  3. Chuck! Did you take those night pix? Those are awesome. Through a telescope or just with the zoom on the camera and a long exposure. Please tell all!

  4. Watching the night sky was my first passion. when I was a kid, I remember my grandpa had a telescope set up in his backyard. He used to bring my uncle and me out to watch any of the special events. My uncle does this for his kids now.
