Winter Went Out Like This

While the last day of winter ended like this yesterday, it seems that spring has been with us for a few weeks.  I zoomed out and captured a second image.

The two contrails in the sky illustrate that while life is laid back in our neighborhood, overhead there are people rushing around on their self-appointed rounds.

Personal Note

The podiatrist removed the pins (Kirschner wires) from my toe.  The examples below are used for wrist repair.

The wires in my toe were three-inches long and had yellow tips on the bent, blunt ends.  A couple of twists and a firm pull and they came out without any pain.

This week I’m able to wear regular shoes again.  After seven weeks in the walking boot, the first step in a regular shoe was very difficult.  Fortunately it didn’t take long to readjust to the thinner shoe.  It also feels good to have both feet on the same level (the boot is an inch thicker than my shoes).

Sylvia

This is Sylvia’s second week of spring cleaning.  Today she started with her craft supplies.  Looks like it will take a while to get through them.  I notice that the trash can is filling up with lots of dried out markers and pens plus other no longer useful items.

Signs of Spring

Our snow drops bloomed early this year, but I’m waiting for signs of life from the daffodils.

Spring birds are showing up in the neighborhood.  I’ve seen robins, sand hill cranes, Canada geese, turkey vultures, red tail hawk, and others.

In well shaded spots, patches of snow still remain.  I expect more before warm weather rule prevails.

  1. Yea!! I am so glad that you got your pins out! I had one of those when I had my toe straightened a couple of years ago. And while it didn’t hurt, just the idea of that thing sticking out of my foot all of the time bothered me. I hope your feet are feeling better now. Be sure to give them time to heal fully. I just hope you have less pain now.

I understand about the comments. I have mine go to approval after 3 days because of spammy comments. I didn’t take it personally. I just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you and your feet.

  2. I didn’t realize you had to have pins put in. I am glad to hear the ordeal is over and you’re back in shoes! We just had a week off for Spring Break here, and I did all of my deep cleaning and getting rid of the junk/donating spree too. ’tis the season. 🙂

Happy you had a good Easter!! It was just me and the youngest this year, which is very unusual, but that’s okay. We had a super nice time just the same. 🙂 Hi to you and to the Mrs. 🙂

    • It certainly is that cleaning season. Here, the junk has gone off with the trash hauler. The donations have been set aside for a benefit yard sale the proceeds of which will be used to offset the medical expenses of a friend who has stage 4 cancer.

  3. Those pins look scary. I’ve had similar pins in my thumb. They were really only scary when I actually looked at them too much.

    • My pins were longer. I never saw them as scary . . . only as a means of holding things in place while the healing began. I had mixed feeling when they were removed. Part of me like them the stabilizing my big toe in place. Another part was glad to see them go so that I could wear a real shoe on that foot.

  4. Nice comparison pictures there !! And so glad to hear that your foot surgery turned out so well. !! Our podiatrist tells us that surgery is the only way to straighten out crooked toes !!!

  5. The sunsets are beautiful; “yikes” to the pins; and I don’t even want to think about Spring cleaning projects. Yea for Sylvia!

    • I’ve tried to help her, but I can’t keep up. Many of our friends call Sylvia “The Energizer.” No argument from me.
