Two Windows on the Storm

Just when it seemed that winter had ended, wintry weather returned over the weekend.  Saturday, inspection revealed a low oil level in our generator.  I made it to the auto parts store with eight minutes to spare before their closing time, returned home and filled the engine to the proper level.  That felt good to be ready . . . just in case.

Heavy winds had been blowing for some time when the rain began.  All night Saturday, I could hear the howling wind and the rain beating on the house.

Sunday, I rose to look out upon the world.  This scene greeted me.

That view is through a north-facing window, not a shower door.  Church meetings had been cancelled.  It was a great day to sit inside and read.

A bit later I looked out again.  This time through a west-facing window.  This poor fellow did not appear to be enjoying the weather.

Overnight temps held about freezing.  Monday saw them rise slightly.  The trees are slowly dropping their loads of ice.

Despite all that harsh weather, I can see Sylvia’s miniature daffodils in bloom.  I’ll try to get pix later, but other duties beckon to me.

A week from today, the forecast is for a sunny day with a high of 62 F.  Now that’s more like it!

  1. Cold weather is holding on for so long up north right now!! My mom and aunts in Ohio said it’s the same there. They are definitely looking forward to winter taking a hike. I agree that from the looks of that window, it was a good day to stay inside!

  2. Winter really doesn’t want to let go this year. It wants to be dragged off kicking and screaming. I think that this week is finally the end though.

  3. At least the robin has his chin up! That’s serious ice. We didn’t get quite that much glare ice, but pellets. Still wintry here. They say next week. But I’m headed south anyway!

    • The little guy had puffed himself up to almost double size. I had seen him preening his feathers a few moment earlier. Very nasty weather. About 3/8 inch of ice that didn’t appear to cause major damage around here. For that reason, we’re feeling relief.

I think you got more snow than we did. Your trip is well timed.

    • As you know, Donna, each year has its own individual character–much like children. Some seasons are contrary and unruly.

  4. Isn’t this a crazy Spring? It is very discouraging…but then, you get a “warm” day and am encouraged again. Also, those Spring blossoms are a vision of hope and tenacity for us.

    • Yes, once again we are experiencing a crazy spring. Great observation about spring blossoms in the ice and snow. By mid-week, it will be a different scene.
