Chillin’ In West Michigan

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.  This is a photo from last winter.

I woke up yesterday to a white world.  The first snow had fallen over night and a thin white blanket covered the earth.  It snowed all day and into the night.  This morning snow is still falling.  The prognosticators are calling for a high of 31 F today.  It may be time to harness the snow blade.

The day before, I woke to a strange feeling on my big toe.  There was Midnight–come to wake me up.  Was he kissing my toe?  Or was he checking me out for breakfast?  I decided it was time to wake up.

What the cat was doing is just one of many questions I ask myself each day.  Sometimes I come up with an answer, other times I cannot.  For example our friend at String to Short to Tie goes by the name, Vanilla.  How did he get that name?  Is it his favorite ice cream flavor?  Or does it describe something else about our friend?

That got me thinking.  If Vanilla describes his personality, what flavor would describe you?  Mint chocolate nut?  Lemon?  I think mine would be Rocky Road.

  1. A few years ago on my application for personalized license plate, under the explanation for my request I wrote, "I am just plain vanilla." You know, smooth, sweet and a hint of ambrosia. Truly, perhaps my favorite confection is a real vanilla malt. I know, with the malt we are no longer "plain vanilla."

Thanks for asking; even though there may be nothing real exciting or mysterious behind the moniker. Just "vanilla," don't you know?!

  2. I don't know. Do they have a wacky flavor that tends to get a little serious sometimes?? And then when you eat it you have this urge to stand up for the things that are wrong in life and you just end up getting in trouble for things you say?? If they have that, then that is the flavor I am. 🙂

Psssst: Find out the Vanilla "scoop" and get back to us, okay?

  3. I found your blog a couple of days ago from Rebecca Mecomber's TheOlderGeek.com. Cool blog…and very interesting.
I think I would best be described by the ice cream flavor sherbet (a mix of sweet and sour…LOL).

  4. I have wondered about Vanilla's "vanilla," too. I don't know what I would be classified as. Maybe Raspberry Frackle or something eccentric.

We got a little snow today, but not enough yet.

  5. Looks like you got the same snow we got. We're still under snow warning until tomorrow morning. Could see a foot of snow yet. We always get blasted because of the higher elevation – Gaylord.

Is there such a thing as sweet and sour ice-cream? That's what I would be if so. By the way, the captcha phrase I got here is "twinter". Wintery one, huh?
