Contest~ We Have a Winner

Last week Secondary Roads announced the Most Embarrassing Moment contest.

Only five brave souls came forward to share their moment of shame. Each of them is a winner and each deserves a place in a book of profiles in courage. I even shared an experience I had, but as blog author I was DQed.

The Secondary Roads Commission has met and reviewed the following entries:

1. Justine experiences a wardrobe malfunction.

2. Poetic Shutterbug goes lap diving for melon balls.

3. Star-chuu discovers her peeking underoos.

4. Vanilla stops to visit his girl friend, it becomes a three-way-date.

5. Ida is the reticent receptionist.

You can read their individual stories in the comments here.

As I said, the Commission met, voted and have asked me to announce the results. The commissioners and I extend our thanks to our five valiant participants. The commissioners were unanimous in their decision.

Yes folks, we have a winner and it is Justine (aka Tiney) for her swim-wear wardrobe malfunction.

Justine (Tiney) wins the much coveted Tommy Toe Award. I know she has been wanting one of these for months. Now she is the proud recipient of this fine award.

The Tommy Toe gets its name from what my mother used to call this wonderful fruit that makes such wonderful sandwiches with bacon and lettuce. The BLT was one of my mother’s favorites. Every year when fresh tomatoes were available in the garden, she would get together with a friend and they would make BLTs for lunch. I remember those days well, and I still consider the BLT to be one of my favorite sandwiches.

Justine doesn’t participate in Entrecard at this time. For that reason, the 1000 EC credits will be awarded to the blog of her choice.

Update:

Justine chose Poetic Shutterbug to receive the 1000 EC credits, and they have been given to her. Thanks again to all who participated in the fun.

Blogosphere’s Got Talent I ~ The Winner

You’ve been waiting to hear who would win Secondary Road’s contest, Blogosphere’s Got Talent I. Before the winner is announced let’s review the entrants in this fabulous contest:

Lin

Her talent is dancing. She sent a picture of her square dancing with Joe. Did you notice that they are out of step with each other. In the second picture she sent, she is doing a solo Lithuanian rain dance while decked out in waders and long rubber gloves.

Clara

My Sister is a quilter and her links show bed covers and other projects that she has completed using her fabulous quilting skills.

Pricilla

Entered her friend Harry the Goat. Harry jumps from hay bale to hay bale. These bales are much larger than little bitty Harry. And that’s why it takes talent to do what he does. He also has good looks and charm working for him — as do all the other contestants I hasten to add.

Sharkbytes

Crochet is her game and she shared an afghan that she did. A very talented gal this one. She must do this in the winter when we Michiganians like to spend some time inside. The summers are far too nice. Right?

Ida

She is an actor. Okay she didn’t end up in New York City or Hollywood, but she’s had her starring roles. Give her a curtain call and a dozen roses.

John

When he revealed his talent for optimizing programs written in machine language, he even received a vote from Clara. Yes, she understands what that means.

And the Winner is . . .

That’s right! In a very close, hotly contested contest, Lin the gal garnered one more vote from Secondary Roads readers than Pricilla’s friend Harry the Goat.

Take a bow Lin. If you can in that fancy dance costume.

As the winner, Lin is entitled to eternal fame (or at least until next week). She also receives 1000 EC credits and the highly coveted Tommy Toe Award.

Congratulations Lin, and thanks to all of our participants. You are all winners in my book. Very special thanks to you dear readers who took time to leave a comment. You are very much appreciated!.

Blogosphere’s Got Talent I ~ The Contestants

The call went out and 6, count them six, stalwarts have responded.

Here they are in no particular order. Vote for the contestant that you consider most talented by posting a comment by noon Eastern Time on next Wednesday. The winner will be announced next week on Thursday. That gives you time to consider your choice. It also gives the participants the opportunity to entice their blogger buds to come vote for them. I can hardly wait to see the outcome.

So here are our contestants:

Lin

She said: I sent TWO photos, Chuck. Both are unbelievably incredible talents.

As you can see the first is square dancing. She is insistent that it is not (necessarily) dancing for squares.

Lin chose not to describe this talent. I have seen this on the Internet, however, and it was described as a Lithuanian rain dance. The attire speaks to the effectiveness of the dance.

Clara

Clara’s her name and quilting’s her game. [Trust me she’s rabid.]

See quilts here. Miss Jillian, the kitty is an option, but not included.

Not-for-the-bed quilting projects here.

Pricilla

Well, Harry the goat can leap from hay bale to hay bale. Does that count? [yes, dear, it does. Besides he’s just a little guy and those bales are as tall as he is.] She concludes you can see the crazy goat here.

Sharkbytes

Hmmm. Not sure what you really want. My biggest talent is starting things and never finishing them. But I did finish the afgan shown at: http://myqualityday.blogspot.com/2009/04/irenes-afghan-is-done.html

Ida

Although I am a drummer in a local band, and am the music director of Immanuel Southern Baptist Church, my REAL talent is acting.

That’s right folks. I studied acting at Clarendon Jr. College, Clarendon, TX., with roles in Oklahoma, The Women, and a couple of others that I can’t remember the names of. BUT, my greatest role was as Truvi. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I gave a performance that rivaled Dolly’s in the movie in the WAY OFF Broadway production of Steel Magnolias. (you can’t get much further off Broadway than Scott City, Kansas!) I only had to change ONE line to accommodate my less than Dolly figure! LOL

Alas, I am unable to put my performance on You-Tube. If I could, you would undoubtedly select ME for the Blogosphere’s Got Talent I award. I WANT THAT TOMMY TOE!!!

John

This fellow want to play coy with us. He says:

I’m not sure if it’s counted as a talent, but I’m pretty good at making my girlfriend angry! 🙁

Failing that, I’m pretty good at optimizing programs written in assembly language. Not sure that’s going to impress anyone though… [Some us will be impressed, however.]

* * *

There you have it folks. The six stalwart competitors in Secondary Roads’ contest, Blogosphere’s Got Talent I. I tried to brow beat a couple of others to enter in the fun, but they seem to have a talent for saying no.

So it is now in your hands. Vote for Lin, Clara, Harry (Pricilla’s friend), Sharkbytes, Ida or John. You have until noon on Wednesday to vote by leaving a comment on this post.

They are all worthy competitors. I can hardly wait to see who will win fame, 1000 ECs and the Tommy Toe Award. Oh did I ever mention that I fiddle with my whiskers?

I Did It! – Monday & Contest Announcement

Once again it’s Monday and time to celebrate our accomplishments. I invite you to join your friends who participate in I Did It! – Monday. Find more details at My Meme Mania, which is a product of the fertile mind of my sister, Clara.

Last week I was hit with Antivirus System PRO. This rendered my system useless until it was disabled. Spybot-Search and Destroy took care of most of the problem. Uniblue Registrybooster cleaned up the last fragments of the pesky infection.

The lesson from last week’s experience is that a good antivirus program is not enough. Malware protection and registry protection is also necessary to maintain your computer’s health.

Contest Announcement

Here’s your chance to win fame, 1000 ECs and a lovely award that you can display on your blog. Enter Secondary Road’s contest, Blogosphere’s Got Talent I. Here’s how you enter: Just leave a comment here on this post or send me e-mail to chuck@k8ch.net. If you’ve documented your talent online, send a link to your post. You don’t have to do that. All you need to do is describe your talent. You’re going to be trying to impress Secondary Roads readers.

On Thursday, I’ll post the list of entries. Readers will then vote by leaving comments on Thursday’s post. The winner will be announced next Monday. I know you have talent. Today, I read a story that Rita T had posted on line. That gal has talent. Justine has a Facebook farm that she’s proud of. What can you do? Stack BBs on a light bulb? How many? Don’t tell me you can lick your elbow. I don’t believe it.

Remember, the winner receives fame, noteriety, 1000 ECs and the Tommy Toe Award.

There’s your challenge this week. What can you do? I want to hear from you.

Misc. & Saturday Song ~ July 4th

Before going on to other matters, my blogger bud, Lin is having a Dork Off contest and I’m entered. If you love me, you’ll visit Duck and Wheel with String and vote for Chuck. If you hate me, you’ll do the same. Thanks, and I appreciate it!

I was hit yesterday with Antivirus System Pro. This is a rogue anti-spyware program. I’m not sure how I picked up the infection. I was doing EC and Adgitize drops when things went beserk. I spent the rest of the day (and night) getting it cleaned up. I went to Windows’ Task Manager and clicked on the processes tab. Then I closed sysguard.exe. That helped enough for me to run Spybot – Search and Destroy. After I post this, I need to do some more work. I’m still getting strange redirects and warnings that reliable Websites are malicious.

Learn a lesson and equip yourself today with anti-spyware and anti-malware programs. Spybot has worked well for me, but I also use Ad-Aware and Malware Bytes. Scan your system regularly.

All this has left me longing for a simpler time, and today we celebrate the birth of our great nation. For that reason, I take you back in time to listen to Kate Smith as she sings, what for me is her trademark song, God bless America.

Wishing you and yours a happy 4th of July. God Bless America!
