Change in Plans

Crocus Blossoms

This picture was not taken today.  I posted it to bring us all hope, which is what we’ll need to get through this winter.  For it looks like it will be a winter to remember.

I’m sure our propane supplier is scrambling to find additional supplies to meet the heavy demand of this season.  Fortunately, we entered an agreement with the company that limits the price we pay this year.  😀

Snow removal has also been a problem.  I use a landscape grader blade behind the tractor for light snow.  This year I’ve had to use the front-end loader–a lot.  It takes longer, but works quite well.

Yesterday, I got stuck in a snow drift on the way to church.  I managed to work my way out and then returned home.  I might have made it through, but it was snowing heavily and there were strong winds.  That’s not exactly what I’d call a recipe for a happy ending.

More snow and wind overnight left roads impassable.  We may see a snow plow.  Perhaps as early as tomorrow?  I’m not holding my breath. :surrender:

This morning I cancelled an appointment with my primary care provider and rescheduled it for next week.  We’ll spend another day at home.  Fortunately, there’s good company (Sylvia and Nellie), plenty of propane in the tank (just refilled before this storm) and Netflix.

Meanwhile, I am in the process of building my next computer.  I only lack a couple of optical drives, which are on order.  I’ll have to see when UPS can make it to my door.

About Chuck

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

    • A few roads are still closed here in Ionia Co. That snow is indeed falling this morning. Fortunately, I have plenty to do in the comfort of the house. 😎

    • We’ve been “staying in” for the past week. We tried to get out on Sunday, but as you’ve read, that failed. Today should be warmer, and I hope to get clear the driveway. Just now, it is impassable.

  1. The only thing fun about work these days is that I at least get out of the house! We have a mean case of cabin fever around here.

Will it ever warm up again??? I am beginning to wonder.

    • We tried to get out on Sunday. I ended up stuck in a snow drift half-way up the driver’s-side door. With effort, I managed to get free. After that I returned home.

I hope it warms up. I tried to start our [diesel] tractor this morning. It’s too cold for it to fire. :frustrate: Looks like it may warm a bit toward the end of this week. But it still won’t get above freeing. I’m cool with that. (Pun definitely intended) :laff:

  2. Good company, entertainment, and a cat. Sounds good to me.

We got another snow day here. I don’t mind in the least, but I’m starting to think they’re going to tack time on to Spring Break or Summer Vacay. Not sure what the alloted snow day allowance is…

    Silly snow. :hkitty:

      • Everything here in Ionia County is shut down. :surrender: I’ve seen two trucks drive by on our road since Saturday. We’re still waiting for a snow plow. I understand now why the previous owners (working folk) sold this place to us and moved a few miles away.

        • My MIL lives in the country in Eaton Rapids, and they rarely get a snow plow their way either. I can understand moving to where the plows do run. If you HAVE to get out, it could be really, really annoying to not be able to. :beam:

  3. Chuck, I am praying for all those negatively impacted by the hard winter we are experiencing. It is currently snowing here in W. KS, but nothing like you guys are getting and is supposed to be in the 60’s by Wednesday. Gotta love our bi-polar weather here in the South Plains! Anyway, stay warm and God bless!

    • Thanks Ida! :tiphat: There are a lot of folks that are suffering from this weather. Fortunately, we are merely inconvenienced. 😎

Heavy snow and wind here this afternoon and 4 F. Tomorrow they forecast 5 F for the high temp. Listen to the records tumble. :whaa:

Thursday, we may reach 26 F, but that is also the high for the next 10 days. This would have been a good year to hibernate–if we could. :stars:

  4. And, I dandilions comming up in our yard! Fertilized and put down weed killer yesterday! Sorry Chuck, I don’t miss the white stuff. Went to South Bend three years ago this week to bury my father and saw as much snow as I want to see again.

    Keep warm!

    • No need for sorrow, Bill. Except, that is, for the passing of your father, who was a really neat guy. Mine passed in December 1990 after a 15-month battle with cancer. I was there with him at the end.

I’m at peace with living here. There are advantages to having freezing weather in the winter. And what could beat the delights of our summers? :cloud9:
