Father-in-Law’s Flowers

Sylvia has just returned from a stay with her father.  Last week, while she was there, she told me that her cell phone’s battery was nearly flat.  She had left the charger here at home.  She also wanted a couple of other things.  I offered to take the items to her.

While I was at her dad’s, I took some time for a stroll around the house.  With camera in hand, I went in search of . . .

hyacinth.  I found some growing in the lawn near the driveway.  Aren’t they lovely?

As I shot that photo, I saw a tulip blossoming in the ditch beside the road.  The tulips at home would open the next day.

From the ditch, I walked to the back side of the house.  On that side, there is a pergola that is covered in wisteria.  Our friend Vanilla had posted a photo of his wisteria in full blossom.  This far north, it takes longer for those blossoms to develop.

I activated the camera’s flash to provide light on the back-lit scene.  I was rewarded with an interesting effect.

  1. I am so glad to know what those flowers are. They come up every spring in my front yard and are so lovely, but I never knew what they were. Thank you for posting the picture!

    • They are beautiful. I suppose they are called “grape hyacinth” because the blossoms look like clusters of grapes–only smaller.

  2. We have those little flowers in our backyard and I didn’t know what they were called (they came w/the house) but we sure like them. They seem to grow wild each year though, and not in a proper place as if someone put them there.

    • At Dad’s house they grow in the yard, not in a flower bed. We had some that grew at our house, but they must have gotten damaged or removed while we were doing other work. 🙁 I miss them.

  3. Ooooh, all those little gems of Spring! We worked out in the yard all day on Sunday and it was great to see it coming back to life. Of course, the weeds are also coming back to life too. 🙁

    • Of all those gems, I like the grape hyacinth the best. :awe:

The weeds . . . not so much, but I’m glad that nature doesn’t discriminate based on my taste and preferences. 8)
