Sylvia harvested beets. I found them on the kitchen table.
That is a quarter in the bottom center. Like most of this year’s garden plants, we are seeing the best harvest ever.
That big? Really? No, not really. It’s called parallax. That beet was three and a half inches diameter. I say “was” because now it has been eaten. Yes, it was yummy with a touch of butter, salt & pepper. #ReadyForMore
Jalapeño poppers for lunch today. I’m ready. :food:
You can keep the jala*** things, but beets and beet greens are some of my favs!
Jalapeños are not for everyone. Sylvia and I have developed a taste for them. When we go for Chinese, we usually select something with the warning label.
Beets and beet greats are terrific. We’re also enjoying lambs quarters for greens since you introduced us to them.
I don’t know about the beets. I have a phobia from my childhood ( I hated them, haha). Seems like I should be adult enough now to try them again. 😉 My granddaughter loves beet chips! Now the jalepeno poppers…that’s more my speed. I love those things!
Beet chips? Sound interesting. For the poppers, Sylvia uses a mixture of cream cheese and grated sharp cheddar for stuffing. They are very good. :food: :food:
I haven’t eaten beets since I was a kid. I don’t really know why because I remember liking them just fine. Maybe I should try again.
Perhaps you should.
I really like the color of beets, but that is only about as far as it goes.. I know that they are a very healthy food choice, but I must have had too many to eat as a youngster……
We enjoy the rich flavor and the nice texture of well prepared beets. That color is nice too. :food:
All of the toiling is paying off with delicious fresh vegetables. Nice!
We do eat well this time of year.
Wait…you ate the beers without picklin’ ’em? One of my favorite tubers when pickled.
I thought the beers are what pickles you. The beets are okay that way, but we like them fresh from the garden.
Our harvest is also great this year! We’ve watered and fed our plants compost, rabbit & chicken poop! Dan also mulches heavily with grass clippings. Praise the Lord for the bounty as we are also busy canning, freezing, and pickling!!
All will taste great this winter when we’re sitting in our comfortable home, looking out at the snow, and reminiscing about this hot, hot summer!!!!
We get our poop from next door’s sheep and goats. It is well aged so we can pile it on.
