Just For Laughs

A post last week from my good friend, Vanilla, got me thinking about humor.  What do you find funny?  Is it some of the juvenile stuff that you see on TV these days?  Who writes that stuff?  Adolescent males?

Try some of the so-called comedy shows.  Who comes up with those ideas?  Stand-up comedians?  Why is profane language and bathroom humor funny to mature adults?  I don’t get it.  Okay, I thought those things were funny when I was in junior high school.

Fortunately, if you get RFD TV, there is still good clean humor available.  Check your program listings.

Hee Haw is alive and well!

Do you remember when this series was on TV?  During part of its run, we were living in South America.  The only American TV available was Kung Fu, starring David Carradine.  The sound track was in Spanish, but we enjoyed watching this with our sons each Sunday evening, but that’s not humor.

It’s good to be able to catch up on the Hee Haw fun that I missed.  Here’s an excerpt from one of the weekly segments:

What do you watch just for laughs?

About Chuck

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

  1. Ha, I hear you, Chuck. And I liked what Priscilla said. I, too, groan at today's idea of 'humor.' The drivel even in animated children's films has driven me to bark and growl at the television like a mad dog. I've often wondered if they do get written by adolescent males with no discipline or work ethic. (Grumble, grumble)

What I do for laughs… sometimes I talk out loud. It drives my family nuts, but it does make me laugh sometimes. 😀 I also watch Ray Comfort videos; his ministry does a Q & A webcast called "On the Box" and the guys love the Lord and have a great sense of humor. Brad Stine, Nazareth, and Michael Jr. are a couple of Christian comedians that do some funny stuff, also. "Drive Thru History" is another DVD series that we like to watch– a Christian travel show on history with Dave Stotts, who is a hoot.

  2. The goats watch the humans and the humans watch the goats. The cats just sit and act superior

  3. I like puns, and wit. I also like goofy stuff. 🙂

I once read an article by a columnist that bewailed the status of our modern society. He said our entire modern culture is built by and meant to cater to the adolescent male. The real trick was convincing females to believe that they WANT to cater to the adolescent male. Hm, it looks like the ploy has worked.

Oh, how I loved Hee Haw!

I can't specifically bemoan television because I don't watch it anymore. It's too painful. And the tv folks make us PAY for the pain??? No thanks!! LOL

  4. The study of humor would lead one deep into psychology, sociology, philosophy, and probably physiology. There. I've shown my erudition. Humor? I may not understand its roots, but like art, I know what I like. And I did like Hee-Haw!

As Lin did, I am moaning about cable bill, too. Just got the bill this morning.

    Thanks for the hat-tip.

  5. There isn't much in the way of "entertainment" on TV, that's for sure. I always end up laughing at repeats of those Home Video shows. The humor is pretty innocent and the comments are funny. And it is something you can watch with your kids.

I've been moaning about the cost of cable lately–wouldn't it be nice if we could just pay for the channels we watch?
