My World ~ Snow Day!

Last week, we had a big snow storm. It started Tuesday afternoon and continued into Wednesday. Tuesday ended with Sylvia’s car stuck at the bottom of the drive. It was off the road, so that was a problem that could wait until Wednesday. And the sun came up that Wednesday morning.

The snow was not terribly deep at the top of the drive as I looked out the window. How would it be elsewhere?

As I expected there was drifting on the slope. Yes, the driveway is under all that snow. The fun would be removing the snow.

The drifting created some interesting patterns. The white dots are snow flakes. The white stuff hadn’t yet stopped falling. (This is the only photo that I processed. Increased the contrast a bit.)

Looking down from the office window I could see snow collected on the burning bush and a snow drift.

Shifting my camera upward, I could see more snow in the trees. That’s the back side of an Internet satellite dish. I canceled the service several years ago — it was expensive and not very reliable. Now I use terrestrial wireless (Wi-Fi) to connect.

You can see the blue sky and a strong shadow from the power pole and transformer. The snow was ending and soon I would go out and begin snow removal operations. That, however, is another story.

  1. your world is truly different from my world but both have mother nature's gift that we can treasure. thanks for sharing.

  2. Vanilla, That's a free service for you. Hope your enjoying life by the Big River.

Sharkbytes, It's snowing again this evening. When is enough enough? Hope you got the pump fixed.

Lara, I like snow more now that I'm retired than I did when I had to go out in it everyday to go to work.

PJ, Every year is just a bit different. Do keep warm.

Ladyfi, I love it too. Like diamonds sparkling on the ground.

Clara, I liked the look of strata that developed on this last one.

Pricilla, Enjoy your light snow. You do understand that someone else got it . . .

Sylvia K, I know that K is for your last name. My Sylvia has K for her middle name. Small world huh? Lake Odessa is not a very big place.

Lin, Oh you are so right on both counts my friend. Fortunately, I had some help from John Deere.

Mrs M, So you and Pricilla have sent your snow to other places. Sylvia's cousin in North Carolina is wishing that you hadn't sent it there.
My WiFi coverage is excellent. I have a microwave link from my Amateur Radio tower to the main hub in Lake Odessa. Another microwave link ties us to the big hose and the Internet. Also on my tower is an access point that several of my neighbors connect through.
This is not like a hot-spot. There are outdoor radio units at each house with an ethernet cable running into a router or computer inside.

  3. Really nice photos!

We've not had much substantial snow this year; haven't had it in a few years, actually. Although "substantial" is a relative term. For us in NYS, it means upwards of 3 feet. Now that Lake ERie is frozen, we'll probably not get much more this winter, unless a freak Noreaster hits.

How is your Wi-Fi coverage? I'd be interested to know.

  4. It is still pretty, isn't it? I like the sparkles and the drifts, but removing it all isn't so fun. Ugh.

  5. Such great photos and it is lovely to look at this was a reminder to be grateful that I live in Seattle although the snow is beautiful! My daughter and her husband lived in Lake Odessa for awhile, live in Newago now. Hope you get dug out and have a great week!

Oh, and my name is Sylvia, too.

  6. I love the patterns in the drifting snow over the driveway. Snow is so beautiful and always different.

  7. no matter what people say, I like snow so much :). and I am grateful we had a winter like in the good old times…

  8. Lovely snow! We are finally getting some more here. Yeah! (Um, but we also have no water. Om and I are going out in just a few minutes to try to figure out why. Pump was fixed just 2 years ago)
