Summertime

. . . and the living is easy.

That is especially true for our feline housemate.  Nellie loves to rest on this chair in front of this northwest-facing window.  I keep the window open so she gets a fresh breeze.

Sunday evening, Sylvia returned after a two-week absence.  She had been with her dad.  First at his house, and then at the cottage that her great grandfather had built on Glen Lake.  A week’s vacation at the cottage has been a family tradition for as long as Sylvia remembers.  It is a cherished tradition.

Meanwhile, Nellie was becoming more comfortable with me.  She doesn’t want to settle on my lap like she does on Sylvia’s, but at least she tolerates me better.

I believe this is the way it works: If you want to build pride, get a dog.  If you want to develop humility, bring a cat into your home.

I am retired after a career in electronics and in publishing. Today, my wife of 50+ years, Sylvia, and I live in a house on a hill beside a dirt road in rural west Michigan. We enjoy living in this country environment where livestock and wild life out number the human population.

  1. The cat will pick a favorite, no doubt. For some reason, the cats’ favorite is always me. Even Joe’s cat when we first got married. She was all his….until we got married. Then she was all mine. Go figure.
