The Envelope, Part 2

Yesterday on the Duck and Wheel, Lin posted “The Envelope Please . . .”  Her mom had given Lin an envelope with some photos.  One of the photos in that packet was of Lin’s 4th grade class.  She proceeded to challenge her readers to identify her mug shot from the group.  It was a lot of fun, and some of us managed to correctly identify the young Lin.

I don’t have a class picture from 4th grade, but I do have one from fifth grade. Can you identify me in the photo?

I’ll give you two hints.  First, I’m not a girl.  Second, there is something similar about my photo and Lin’s.

Okay, one more hint.  I’m not the guy in the fifth row on the far right.  That was Duane C, who was a special friend. He saved me from drowning in Lake Michigan when we were in High School.  He joined the US Marine Corps and afterward was a policeman and public safety officer in Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Duane died just before our class’ 50 year reunion.  There are tears in my eyes as I write this.

  1. Mrs M, Sorry.

Rita T, I'm still looking for the individual shot of me from that year. I'm wearing a scout uniform. Unfortunately, It doesn't show up will in the group shot.

  2. Good grief! When are you going to reveal which one you are? The suspense is horrible.

  3. Well, I tried looking for a kid who looks like your grand-daughter, because I think she looks like you… but I can't tell.

Just for kicks, I'm going to choose Third Row, first on the left, cuz he has a really cute smile.

That's amazing about your friend, saving you! And sad about him. 🙁 ((hugs))

  4. Lin, Not exactly . . . Nope that's Herbert. I'm looking for a larger format photo. It has to be around here somewhere.

BA, No, she didn't. Both of us are old enough to have our eyes open. And were then. Did I really fool you?

    Vanilla, Which one is #21?

Sharkbytes, That's not a scout uniform that Richard is wearing. It's a Safety Patrol belt with chest strap.

Pricilla, My bad. Sorry about the tiny pics.

Clara, Fooled you too? Yes, that's Dave K.

  5. Hey, isn't that Dave K from up the street on the bottom row just right of center? I saw him right away. And I recognize a few other faces, too. But I'd have to look at your yearbook to be sure of the names.

  6. OK, Lin was easy to spot. How come your sister took such a long time to figure it out? I agree with Bryant – you're the one with your eyes closed.

  7. My bad eyes can't see them that well I am sorry.
I didn't even realize Lin was wearing a scout uniform It was the face that told me it was her.

    I can't see the faces in yours….

  8. OK, I'm going with 4th row, 4th from left, with a Scout uniform. Dang! Those pix are tiny.

It's amazing how many from my graduating class of 51 are already gone.

  9. I'm going with #21 again.

The loss of a friend is tough, but you have some great memories.

  10. Did Lin have horns, were her ears sticking out, were her eyes closed, was she wearing a vest or maybe just a dorky smile?

Anyway, I feel bad for Lin…

  11. Your mother curled your hair for your class photo???! And she made you wear your Girl Scout uniform??! Yikes, we have more in common than I thought, Chuck!

Okay, I'm going with …..this is TOUGH……4th row, under the 1 in "51". Dang, I hope I'm right. It was hard to see the photos–they are tiny. And none of the boys have beards. Sheesh.

Nice memory about Duane. What is it that made us both sad about our friends when we looked at these?
