A Visit From Nelly

Last Saturday, Sylvia held a sledding party for the children in her Sunday School class.  Fresh snow had blanketed the hill and the kids had a great time with the sleds.

Fun rules on the hill beside our house.

A couple of moms had brought children and we watched the merriment through the windows.  They enjoyed themselves immensely–both kids and moms.

Nelly watches her older sisters as the play in the snow.

Among the observers was one-year-old Nelly.  She enjoyed watching her two older sisters frolic on the slope.

In case you are wondering, she did not meet Nellie (aka Kittie).  Our Nellie was nowhere to be found until long after the visitors had departed.

After the kids came in, having had their outdoor fun, Sylvia gave them cups of hot chocolate with marshmallows and a scoop of ice cream.  (That was a big hit!)

I played the movie, Narnia — The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.  That was fun too.  Some of the children watched for the first time while others would quote lines in sync with the actors.

We all had a fun day.  Afterward, I had a nap.  Another one may be coming soon.  Aaahh. 🙂

    • It was fun. I particularly enjoyed watching the movie with the kids. It was fun to see their reactions and hear their comments.

  1. Your naps sound wonderful. 😉 We have co. visiting from out of state this week (through Monday), and hurrah for it!!! But my schedule is very out of whack. 😉

There’s a hill on the side of our house and we use it for sledding, it is a lot of fun.

Kudos for having the Sunday School kids over. I don’t remember my SS teacher ever being that cool. 😉

  2. Oh, what a fun time! And a great idea! Wish I had known, I would have brought my sled over. I love sledding.

Poor Nellie–she was probably hiding out in the basement hoping that everyone would go home! That’s what my cats do when we have company.

    • You and your sled would have been so welcome! I’m sure you’d have even gotten hot chocolate with marshmallows and ice cream. 🙂

Nellie spends most of her time in the basement. Once in a while she’ll come upstairs to check things out. Then she returns to her territory and her kingdom or is it queendom?

    • Heaps o fun. For everyone.

One of the older boys wanted to watch Die Hard. That wasn’t going to happen.

  3. What a perfect day! Nellie was adorable. Our cat, Sebastian, will go into hiding most of the time as well, doesn’t want her sleep interupted you know. This party reminds me of a skating party with one of my Baptist church sunday school teachers, had to of been 55-60 years ago, can’t remember at what age it was. Just know it was special as will these children in years to come. Thanks for sharing and back to your nap.

    • It was a nice day! Most of the church skating parties that I remember took place at the roller rink. :frolic:

I did get up from my nap to read your comment. What’s that? Oh, it’s the recliner calling be back . . .
