We Have a Winner!

Wednesday, I announced a caption contest here on Secondary Roads.  We received entries from four readers.  One judge observed that this was the most difficult contest yet to choose a winner.  Nevertheless, the judges did complete their work and we do have a winner.

ba_hutch was the first to respond with this entry:

An angel of the Lord appeared beside her, and the glory of the microphone shone around her, and she was terrified. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all people. Today in the town of Los Angeles a singing sensation will be discovered. Yes, you could be the next American Idol!”

How did he know that the original photo was taken during our church Christmas program?  He could see the tinsel halo in the taller girl’s hair.  I know this is so because he told me about it over lunch yesterday.  Yes, most weeks Sylvia and I meet our older son for lunch.  Do you think he’s been watching too much Monty Python?  To avoid possible accusations of nepotism, ba_hutch has been declare ineligible to win the award.

Mike, Ryan and The Other Alice also sent in entries.  After careful consideration and considerable laughs and guffaws, Ryan has been declared the winner for this caption:

Don’t be nervous, just imagine the audience are in their underwear!!

Congratulations Ryan, you have won the Tommy-Toe Award!

The Tommy Toe gets its name from what my mother used to call this delicious fruit that makes such wonderful sandwiches with bacon and lettuce. The BLT was one of my mother’s favorites. Every year when fresh tomatoes were available in the garden, she would get together with a friend and they would make BLTs for lunch. I remember those days well, and I still consider the BLT to be one of my favorite sandwiches.

Thanks to all who entered the competition.  I may do another contest next month.

The contest photo has been manipulated.  The original looked like this:

Anne and Lynn are sisters.  The blue shirt behind them is Will.  Mark, the narrator, has a shoulder visible behind Lynn.  Do you think they might steal the show?
